Communicating Standards and Objectives with Students
The Graettinger-Terril and Ruthven-Ayrshire teachers have been discussing the importance of sharing standards and objectives with students. Students understand the direction that their learning is going, set goals, and can monitor their own progress when they know what they are learning in a lesson. After students know what they are learning, how will they be held accountable for that knowledge?

The objectives for the lesson are presented at the beginning of her power point presentation.
Mrs. Hunefeld's class
The GT 5th grade students have their standards and objectives for the day displayed for them on the white board.
Mr. Quinn's class
Mr. Quinn has shared with the students the grading rubric for art as they self-assess how they did on the first nine-weeks standards and objectives.
Reading Interventions
Graettinger-Terril and Ruthven-Ayrshire Elementary teachers have been using an intervention process based on FAST screening to help meet student needs. Teachers are doing whole-group interventions when a class shows need in an area of phonics, decoding, or fluency. Individual student needs are also being met through one-to-one interventions in the same areas. After ten days of intervention, the student progress is monitored. The teachers determine if they can set new goals or need to continue reinforcing the skill for students. Please thank our teachers for this extra work that improve student learning.
