Principal's Message...

Happy November! This month is a great time to stop and spend a little time thinking about the things we are thankful for in our lives. I, for one, am thankful for all of our Sunnyside community, and I'm thankful we've been able to be back in the building this fall. While we're certainly not fully back to normal yet, it's nice to have all students back in the building full time.

If you have not done so, please make sure to sign up for our Fall Conferences (11/11 and 11/16). Conferences are a great time to meet teachers, learn about the curriculum, and discuss your student's progress. Please click on this link to sign up for a 15-minute time block. As a reminder, please know that we do have a face-covering policy so make sure to have a mask. If you are not able to attend conferences in-person, please contact your child's teacher to schedule an online conference.

I look forward to seeing many of you this week and next!

Mike Pagel

Fall Conferences

Sunnyside's Fall Conferences will be held Thursday, November 11 (3:20p - 7:20 pm) and Tuesday, November 16 (3:20p - 7:20 pm). We are using an online sign-up for conferences called We are hopeful this system will allow you to better choose a time that meets your needs.

To sign up, click on the link below or copy and paste it into your web browser. You may also access the link on the Sunnyside School home page. Simply follow the prompts to register and choose a conference time. Make sure to select your son/daughter’s main teacher.

If you would prefer a virtual conference instead of an in-person conference, please connect directly with your child's teacher after signing up for a time, and he/she will provide you with a link to a Google Meet.

As per district procedure, we have one 15-minute conference time available per student. It is imperative that parents/caregivers who are connected to the student are receiving the same information and planning together, as a team, how to best support the student.

Please contact the Sunnyside office at 651-385-4570 if you have difficulty.

Mask Up, Sunnyside

Recently, we have had a few students test positive for COVID here at Sunnyside. When going through the close contact protocol to decide who needs to be quarantined, one factor which is considered is whether or not the student wears their mask correctly throughout the day AND while on the bus. Please continue to send your students to school with a mask and encourage them to wear it correctly during their time around other students. While we have not had a significant issue with students refusing to wear a mask, we have seen a significant uptick in the number of students needing frequent reminders to do so.

Online Scholastic Book Fair

Sunnyside will hold its fall Scholastic Book Fair online again this fall from November 11th through the 24th. Not sure what an online book fair is or how it works? Check out this tutorial for more information.

If you are interested in doing a little early holiday shopping, this is a quick and easy way to get some fun, and educational materials for those you love. Check it out at!

Club's Choice Fundraiser Pick Up

For our fall fundraiser, participants had the option of having items delivered directly to homes or having them delivered to Sunnyside for pick up. If you had items delivered to Sunnyside, pick up will take place on Monday, November 22nd from 2:30 - 5:00 pm in the Sunnyside gym. Please note that this is a change in date from the originally scheduled 11/4 pick up, which had to be pushed back due to shipping delays.

Crayola Marker Recycling Program

We are excited to tell you about a very special program going on at our school in conjunction with Crayola. It’s called Crayola ColorCycle – an amazing program devised to turn used markers into energy!

All around Sunnyside, students and teachers will be collecting markers that are ready to be discarded. The markers will be sent to a facility where they will be converted into clean fuel. This fuel can be used to power vehicles, heat homes, cook meals and more!

Please help support our efforts by sending your kids in with any used markers you may have around the house – even non-Crayola brands- and other types of markers including highlighters, Sharpies, and dry erase. A drop-off box is located in the office for your child to deposit the markers.

Thank you in advance for participating! With the help of parents like you across the country, the Crayola ColorCycle program can keep tons of plastic out of landfills each year.

Remember, don’t throw out that used marker—ColorCycle it!
