Good Teaching Practices
As we have walked through the building we noticed some things, that are just good teaching practices, to keep in mind.
1. Do not teach from your desk. Get up and walk around the room. Be able to help kids before they head down the wrong path….behavior is always better when they know you are walking around.
2. Make sure instructions for assignments are posted. Not all of our students are auditory learners……we need to take all learning styles into account.
3. Use visuals when appropriate and watch how long you talk without breaking it up with movement. I noticed that one of our Campus Improvement Goals, from the district is to have regular brain breaks all day to give students a chance to move.
4. Remember, we are all here to teach the kids, not catch them doing wrong. Grades are not as important as them learning the topic….make sure we are all teaching in a way that reaches all of the students.
5. Accommodations, SPED and 504 are not optional. It is a federal law that we will follow them. They can only be changed by going back to ARD or back to a 504 meeting.
You guys do a great job everyday….these are just reminders. Michele
