Giving back to our community is a great way to demonstrate our Catholic values. Students who engage in service learning typically go on to be active in their churches and communities throughout their lives.
According to Pedagogy in Action, the benefits of service learning include enhanced opportunities for learning as well as personal and social skill development. Students gain increased knowledge of academic materials, their communities, and themselves.
Through service-learning activities, students apply classroom knowledge in practical settings to enhance their understanding of what they are learning in school.
Again this year each of our homeroom teachers and their students will be selecting at least one service learning project to complete. Students will use these projects to connect to the community and determine ways that they can make a meaningful difference. I can't wait see what they do.

Reminders for tonight, Thursday, Sept. 8:
CPTO meets at 6:30 PM in the CCC. I invite you to join us to learn more about what's going on at St. Patrick. Mrs. Schmitt and new grade 1/2 teacher Mrs. Clements will be there to represent our staff. Come and meet them along with other parents! CPTO is planning a great year of fun and support of all we do at St. Patrick.
Beginning Band Open House is from 6-8 in the cafeteria.
Faith
Thank you to Mrs. Lind's class for leading our first school Mass of the year. We enjoyed seeing so many family members and parishioners join us.
Excellence
Classes have been discussing what to expect in preparation for Leader in Me job interviews tomorrow. Check out our Facebook page to see what students had to say. It's wonderful to see they understand the value in their doing this at school!
Service
Opportunities are available for students and adults to serve our parish at the Fall Festival. Volunteer Donate baked goods, etc. Typically our school runs the Costume Sale but not this year as the supply of donated items is too low. Parishioners and school families are asked to hang onto items you have–or find on sale–after Halloween so we can open the booth next year.
All are invited to enjoy the festival!
Which One Might It Be?
Turn in or purchase Football Bash tickets today to be eligible for Week 1. The sales don't stop though, because 17 weeks of winners will be left after Week 1!
Ice Cream or Pie? If we sell 1120 tickets students will celebrate with an ice cream party. 1250 means Mrs. Schmitz gets "pied." Let's do this and move closer to replacing the rubber mulch on our playground.
Thank you,
CPTO
