Weekly Family Update # 15
November 17, 2019
Principal's Message
Hello Falcon Families,
It is hard to believe that we are 1/3 of the way through the school year. I have really enjoyed the last 59 school days and I look forward to the next 121! This week, on November 20th, we will have our first PTSA General Association Meeting at 8:30 in the MPR followed by our first Principal’s Coffee. I will be discussing some of the highlights from the first part of the school year as well as discussing the importance of school safety.
Thank you so much for all of the peanut butter donations this past week as part of our partnership with Feeding San Diego. Representatives from Feeding San Diego will be meeting with our ASB students this week to share their experiences with local philanthropy. So far, we have collected over 150 jars. Our donation event runs through 11/22, so there is still time to donate!
Thanks for all you do for our Oak Valley Community! Go Falcons!
Beaming with Falcon Pride,
Mr. Young

ASB Announcements
The ASB Peanut Butter Drive is happening now! A big THANK YOU to all that have dropped your peanut butter jars in our collection bin located in our Welcome Center. But we still need your help! We are halfway to our goal to collect 300 or more Peanut Butter jars. We hope to see many more of you that will bring one, two, or as many jars as you can by Friday, November 22nd.
Thank you for your generosity in supporting individuals in need.
Our Fun Run "Day of Awesomeness" will be on Friday, November 22 during period 4 and during lunch. The event will be held on the fields. Thank you PE for sharing the fields with us that day:)
Adopt A Family
This year the PTSA and Oak Valley Student Services staff have partnered to adopt 20 Oak Valley families for the holiday season. We hope you can help us make the holiday season a little brighter for these families! No donation is too small and any gift is GREATLY appreciated. All donations are needed by Wednesday, December 11th.
You can help in one of three ways:
· Select and item from the Sign Up Genius form
· Purchase a gift card to a discount department store (ex: Walmart or Target), grocery store or gas station
· Make a financial donation that will be used to purchase items or gift card
If you purchase an item from the list: please provide only NEW items and please include gift receipts in the event items need to be exchanged for a different size. Please keep all donations UNWRAPPED. Donations can be dropped off at the OVMS Front Office any time.
We will also be accepting donations during drop off and pick up in front of the school and in the 3 minute loading zone on the following Wednesdays: 11/20, 12/4 and 12/11.
All donations are tax deductible (PUSD Foundation Tax ID# is 54-2098945)
Please contact us with questions! We sincerely thank you for your generosity and wish you a happy & healthy holiday season.
Oak Valley Falcon Foundation
As we approach Giving Tuesday, we want to say THANK YOU to all who have contributed to the Oak Valley Foundation this year. We are inching closer to our goal of $125,000 for the new shade structures. Keep your eyes out for an email from the Foundation with more information on the shade as well as information on other programs funded by your contributions. If you have not yet donated, please consider a donation of any size while you make your Giving Tuesday plans. Families donating $300 or more will be recognized on a commemorative plaque, and donations of all amounts are helpful. You can donate online at www.oakvalleyfalconfoundation.com.
Thank you for your support!
8th Grade Highlight Photos
This is your final reminder to submit a photo of your choice of your child for the 8th grade highlight photo in the yearbook. It is due by November 15th. To upload your photo, please visit the Oak Valley website and scroll to the bottom; select the link, "Share Your Photos With Yearbook Here". If we do not receive your photo by November 22, the yearbook staff will be taking photos of students in their PE class, submit now so they have a choice! Remember, every 8th grader has a highlight photo and this is different than the dedications that you buy in the back of the yearbook. Please contact Oak Valley yearbook advisor, Rhea Dawn Smith if you have questions.
GATE Testing
If you wish to sign up your child for GATE testing, the online test registration window will be open September 9th - November 22nd. This link will take you directly to the PUSD website where you can register your child online. For families unable to complete the registration online, please see the front office for a paper copy. The testing date this year is Wednesday, January 15th. After completing the registration online, the school will be contacting you following Winter Break to remind you of this date. Students will be excused from class approximately one hour in order to participate in testing during the regular school day. Students who took the January 2019 GATE Test, and have tested no more than two times in the Poway Unified School District ARE eligible for the January 2020 GATE test administration. Notification regarding GATE testing results will be mailed to parents in April, 2020.
