2018-2019 School Year: Volume 22: Week of February 11, 2019
Be the Best YOU at Grandview!!!
Your child's presence makes a difference!
It was so great having so many families attend our Valentine Day dances. FOG and our beloved Ms. Simone hosted amazing events for the Grandview students. I appreciate all of you that brought your Grandview student to these evening events.
This is Valentine's Day Week. Many classrooms are hosting Valentine's Day parties, receiving candy grams and passing out Valentine's. Please have the conversation with your child letting them know that Valentine's Day is about spreading kindness. It is not about liking and not liking their classmates and making favorites. It is to let all of the Grandview students know that they are loved by their teachers and their peers. Please focus on the kindness behind Valentine's Day!!
Finally, as I have been mentioning, attendance is becoming a problem at Grandview. Your child needs to be at school. If absences exceed 20, it could become a truancy issue. Additionally, if Grandview does not hit 75% attendance, the day may not count. We have already had lots of days missed due to weather and so we do not have a cushion for days should our attendance fall below 75%. So please get your child to school. I do not wish for days to be added in June and for truancy to be carried out. In the end, when your child is not here, learning becomes lost and we miss them. So please do everything in your power to get your child to school.
Thank you for your continued support at home!
Your Proud Principal,
Melissa Carruth, Ed.S
ANOTHER WEEK OF FUN AND LEARNING!
What a special night for our Grandview Girls as they danced the night away with a special guy in their lives. There were Dads, Uncles, Grandpa's and even babysitters. So sweet!!!
A great night for our Grandview Boys as they celebrated an evening at Grandview with their Mom, Aunt, Grandma, or Babysitter.
2nd Grade Biography Readers
2nd graders learning information about important people and gaining knowledge of the biography genres.
Grandview Math Night
Thank you for your patience as we continue to make this event happen for Grandview and our Ford Engineers. Tuesday, February 26th is our NEW Math Night. Due to the weather, Botsford will be joining us for this event and we will make it a Clarenceville Math Night. It will be from 5:30-7:30. Food will be served from 5:30-6:00 and games will be played from 6:00-7:30. Ford engineers and our 5th graders will be our volunteers. It should be an amazing night, so mark your calendars!

- Our local newscasters run a school's closing list. Clarenceville is listed under Oakland County. Click on Detroit (https://www.clickondetroit.com/) or WXYZ (https://www.wxyz.com/) are a few options both on-line and on the TV with the ticker.
- Mr. Shepich sends out a robocall to families
- I will tweet from @grandview elementary and make a post on Grandview's facebook page
- Staff, nor the office, come in on these days, so no one will be at the office to answer the phone.
All students who have a language other than English spoken at home and are identified as English Learners must take a state test called WIDA ACCESS for ELLs (Accessing Comprehension and Communication in English State to State for English Language Learners). The Enrollment Office form that was completed when your son/daughter enrolled in Clarenceville Schools tells us this information. Students will take the test eve if they are not attending ESL/EL classes. The test is for Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking and Comprehension in English. Students will take the test between February 4-March 22, 2019. We will mail your child's test results to you when we receive them from the Michigan Department of Education. If you have any questions, please contact Karen Morrison at 248-919-0404.

After-School Event Guidelines
Watch Dog -- WE NEED VOLUNTEERS
We have had a lot of students arriving late. Tardies start at 8:40 and will be tracked. If your child comes in after the class did the lunch count, then they will automatically get PB&J as their lunch choice. Lunch counts will not be finalized until after 8:40. If you know your child is going to be late, then please call in the tardy and select your child's lunch choice to ensure that they can get another choice. Our lunch counts are becoming very lopsided and we need to ensure that the children are getting the choice that they signed up for. Also we need our students on time for school!!
Kroger and Grandview
We have collected $7.83 from August to October (we are newly established in Mid October so the collection is from half a month).
We have 21 families registered! Though I know we can have more!!! So please sign-up. Guidelines are below!!
To Use the Kroger Community Rewards Program:
Simply encourage your participants to visit http://www.kroger.com. Once logged into their Kroger account they can search for Friends of Grandview either by name or TH003 and then click Enroll. New users will need to create an account which requires some basic information, a valid email address and a rewards card.
*Customers must have a registered Kroger rewards card account to link to your organization.
*If a member does not yet have a Kroger rewards card, please let them know they are available at the customer service desk at any Kroger
REMEMBER, purchases will not count for your organization until after your participants register their rewards card.
Participants must swipe their registered Kroger rewards card or use the phone number that is related to their registered Kroger rewards card when shopping for each purchase to count.
Bookflix for Grandview Families
The Michigan eLibrary did not renew their subscription to Bookflix. We found great value in this site for our children. Therefore, Grandview purchased a school subscription that allows teachers and students to use the following username and password to access Bookflix at home and at school. Please feel free to use this at home. The link is as follows.....
There is a link on the Library symbaloo and will be putting a link under the student links on the Clarenceville website.
If you click on the apple and book in the top right corner, it takes you to a Resources and Tools page where you can search for books, search by themes, running times and grade levels.
This is another way to engage your students with their learning at home.
Do not rely on just the office for transportation changes. It is important that you also put it in writing in an email to the teacher. If you alert the teacher and the office, chances are better that the message is delivered accurately. We have so many transportation changes at the end of the day that makes us uneasy that a mistake could occur. Please do not make a change after 3:00!!
