Fire Safety Presentations at MWES October 6, 2021

Mr. Nelson will once again be at the school on Wednesday to meet with each grade level to go over fire safety. In addition, we will hold a fire drill in the afternoon. This is a perfect time to go over your fire safety plan for your home. What to do, how to get out, and where to meet up. What a perfect way to celebrate Fire Safety Week!!

Percentage of Students at Each Grade Level that Meet / Exceed on the STAR Assessment Fall 2021

Big picture
Each fall, winter, and spring we will check our growth in math and reading on the STAR assessment. A cut score of 70% is used to measure proficiency at the met/exceeds level. A 70% or greater on the STAR assessments is a strong predictor of meeting/exceeding on the Illinois state assessment (IAR). We will use that as our benchmark goal to increase the levels at which our students are growing and learning. As the fall scores indicate, we have some work to do. However, we have already made plans to start a 30 minute intervention/extension block at each grade level that will focus on building phonics, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary. We will refer to this as W.I.N. (What I Need). Additional small group opportunities will also be available during the math block for additional help as well. We will also have our teachers participate in professional development that will focus on recent brain research that will teach us how the brain learns how to decode and comprehend information. This will help us to better diagnosis and differentiate learning to maximize growth in our students. We are excited to begin this journey and be the best we can be for the students of Mable Woolsey Elementary school!

A Note from Mr. Maxwell, PE Teacher

Last year several parents asked about fitness trackers as gifts for their children. Amazon is currently offering a Night Sky+Neon Yellow Fitbit Ace 2 for $57.29! The Fitbit Ace 3 is for sale as well. Many kids enjoy these items!
