Winter 2014 Workshops
Workshops are open to teachers and administrators from districts participating in the Model Schools Coser (Coser 566) through Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES. For additional information about the IES Model Schools program - be sure to check out our website at e2modelschools.weebly.com.

Web 2.0 Formative Assessments
Participants will deepen their understanding of the use of formative assessments. We will then practice and explore several digital tools that can be used (FREE) in the classroom as a way to assess student learning and to immediately make them aware of their progress toward their learning goals. Teachers will be given time to create/set up different formative assessments that they can utilize in their classroom immediately.
*We will have some laptops available on this day. Please feel free to bring your own laptop or iPad to explore the digital tools.

Teaching Academic Vocabulary with Technology
February 7, 2014

This workshop will define the rigors of academic vocabulary and practice digital vocabulary strategies. In addition, the work by the authors of Bringing Words to Life will be used for academic word selection and lesson planning explicit to learning academic words. Instructional alignment to the Common Core Standards for Literacy will be blended with Technology. The audience is intended for Secondary ELA, Social Studies, Science, and Special Education teachers. Time will be provided for participants to practice using digital tools and consider a lesson creation.

Introduction to Technology Tools

USB, right click, cut and paste, create a folder, hyperlink, creating favorites, insert a table, save as……..If these terms cause your anxiety level to rise, this workshop is for you!!! This will be a very basic introduction to the common technology tools that can make an educators life much easier and more efficient. We will start the session with an anonymous poll of which tools the participants know how to use and do not know how to use and we will go from there. We will structure the day based on the needs of the group.
A limited number of (PC/Dell) laptops will be available for participant use. Please feel free to bring your own laptop to use.

Text Talk Using Technology

This workshop will demonstrate instructional alignment to the Common Core Standards for Literacy blended with Technology. It will use a variety of digital tools, strategies and texts to engage learners in textual conversation. The audience is intended for Secondary ELA, Social Studies, Science, and Special Education teachers. Time will be provided for participants to practice using digital tools and consider a lesson creation.
NOTE: It is recommended to bring your own lap top and two-three worthy texts for text-based conversations. (Consider the major learning pieces/topics for the 4th Quarter)

Collaborative Technology in ELA

Several tools are available online which can be utilized to enhance instruction in ELA as well as other subject areas. These tools are best for enhancing collaboration between teachers and service providers with instructional planning & gathering of data, communicating with parents and gathering evidence of student learning. Google tools, Livescribe Pens, Evernote, Class Dojo (just to name a few) will be examined, and time will be provided for participants to practice and plan for use of these tools. Participants should bring a laptop (and ipad if possible) to set up for use with applications.
NOTE: Districts participating in the E2CCB Model Schools Coser are able to pilot LiveScribe pens for piloting in their districts after attending this workshop. Details will be provided!
