Remote Learning Weekly Update
May 25-29, 2020
New Special Education Resource HUB
Picking Up Items From The School
Students needing academic materials, who have coordinated with their teachers, can retrieve physical items during our remote learning pick up times.
Students in grades 9-11 who need to retrieve items from their PE locker, please be patient. We will be sharing more information on how you can pick your items up soon.
Students with a non PE locker in one of our wings can pick-up the contents of their locker by showing up during our remote learning pick-up times.
Students needing to return library books or textbooks can do so by placing them in the drop box outside of the main office doors during our remote learning pick-up times.
Remote learning pick-up times are: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8-9 AM and again from 12-1 PM.
***Please note, students will not be allowed in the building and need to practice social distancing.
Incomplete “I” Grades
Please note that a grade mark of “I” represents an incomplete. Students need to earn a letter grade “A, B, C, or D” to earn credit toward graduation. Students should be working with teachers to bring incomplete grades to a passing letter grade. If your child is unable to engage in remote learning, please reach out to us so we can help remove barriers and support you and your child.
Staying Organized
Listed below are three resources to help our students and their families. The student planner has been updated for this week with new dates and social and emotional resources for students.
Student Planner (Week starting May 26)
The linked student planner is a document created for students to use to organize their weekly remote learning activities and prioritize tasks. In addition to being an organizational tool, we are also including social and emotional learning tips and/or resources. An updated planner will be sent to students weekly and will contain new social and emotional learning tips or resources. We encourage students to use this tool to stay organized.
Because we have access to multiple digital tools and different teachers are using different platforms to best serve their students; we have created a remote learning organizer for students and families. This tool can be used to organize each student’s different course resources. We recommend students and families use this organizer to help keep track of their different class resources.
The Student/Family HUB is designed to make finding teacher contact info and course resources easier to find. We will continue to update the HUB and add resources.
Why Engage
One of Skyview’s building focuses is on student engagement and now more than ever student engagement is important. We are committed to removing barriers during remote learning to help students engage, continue to learn and earn credits toward graduation.
This week we are sharing a link to a Canva page our staff put together from quotes students gave us about why they thought engaging in school is important during remote learning. Please check it out and remember to engage when you can and communicate when you cannot!
A big thank you to the students who gave us feedback on student engagement. We have shared both your positive and constructive feedback with staff as we plan for continuous improvement around supporting all students.

Refunding Fees
For students that paid fees for Spring sports, dances or other activities that were canceled as a result of the COVID 19 closures the following steps will be taken:
For students/families that paid these fees with a credit card:
Since the district can safely and efficiently process credits back to the same credit card, those fees will be automatically credited back to the same card that paid the fee(s) between May 11-May 15.
For students/families that paid these fees with cash or a check:
The safest and most efficient way to return these fees is through a credit on the student's account that can be applied to any fees assessed to the student for future classes and/or activities. Unfortunately, our student meal accounts are housed on a different system, so we can NOT apply these credits towards meal accounts. For Seniors and other families that would prefer a refund over a credit toward future fees, we will accommodate those requests as community safety and district payment processes allow. To request a refund and make arrangements for a secure refund payment, please email Gemma Strong at gemma.strong@vansd.org or Kimberly Anthony at kimberly.anthony@vansd.org.
