In-person students
- Devices will be collected on Wednesday, June 9.
Virtual students
- Devices will be collected on Thursday, June 10 (1:30-2:30 PM) and Friday, June 11 (8:30-11:30 AM) (drop off)
Collection will involve the following:
- Laptop or iPad
- Charger
- Pen (laptops only)
*Please see directly below for a self-print checklist that your child should turn in with their device on collection day. Hard copies of these checklists are being sent home with in-person students as well. The checklist includes directions for purchasing lost device items through the District website using MyPaymentsPlus.
6th Grade Promotion Information
- Date - Tuesday, June 8
- Time - 4 p.m.
- Location - Outdoors, in front of Mill Creek (parent seating in the bus area)
- Dress - "Smart Casual" (khakis; polos; sun dresses)
*We just ask the students to look "nice." If they have casual dress shoes, great. However, please do not go to great expense to buy something you will only use once. For example, a clean/nice pair of sneakers will look just fine with some khakis and a polo if dress shoes have not been needed for other events this year.
We look forward to seeing our 6th grade parents/guardians and celebrating our 6th grade students!
Mill Creek Day - Coming Soon!
As we celebrate the closure of this unusual year… Mill Creek will be holding its last spirit day on Monday, June 7th. The school will be divided into two teams for the day:
SILVER STARS & BURGUNDY BURSTS
Mill Creek Day will give students, teachers and staff the opportunity to show off their school spirit and participate in fun activities and games. Students will participate in outdoor, as well as, classroom activities. There will be a running score tally for the teams throughout the day. At the conclusion of the day, the final scores will be announced prior to dismissal.
The Virtual Academy will also be running "indoor"/classroom activities for Mill Creek Day, which will occur online - also on June 7. We are coordinating activities for the virtual families who, through our recent survey, communicated that their student will attend for their "outside hour" part of the day. Thank you for understanding, that, due to coordination of the event, we are not able to take any additional attendees who did not complete our attendance survey. Virtual families whose students are attending should drop their child(ren) off at the start of their hour and pick them up at the conclusion of their hour. "Outside hours" are as follows:
- Kindergarten
AM – 10:00-11:00 a.m.
PM – 1:00-2:00 p.m. - 1st Grade – 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
- 2nd Grade – 12:00-1:00 p.m.
- 3rd Grade – 12:00-1:00 p.m.
- 4th Grade – 1:00-2:00 p.m.
- 5th Grade – 10:00-11:00 a.m.
- 6th Grade - 9:00-10:00 a.m.
Dropoff/pickup will occur at the normal school dropoff/pickup location (car parking side of the main parking area). Mill Creek adults will be present to supervise droppoff/pickup.
Current District COVID protocols will be enforced. NO VISITORS will be permitted to attend.

Principal's Post - A Weekly Note From Mr. Ortman
As we conclude our penultimate week of the 2020-2021 school year, we head into our final week with anticipation and excitement! We will engage in a school-wide celebration of the 2020-2021 school year with Mill Creek Day on Monday, June 7. Many thanks to our amazing and dedicated PE teacher, Ms. Leuthe, for organizing the day! Additionally, we will be promoting our 6th graders on Tuesday afternoon at 4 PM and look forward to seeing our 6th grade parents/guardians join us for the event. There's a good chance that a tear or two may be shed... proudly and joyously, or course... as we ceremoniously send our 6th graders up to the middle school. There will also most certainly be many proud smiles!
Thank you, Mill Creek Community, as we head into our final week!
Shawn M. Ortman
Principal
From the Desk of Mr. Murtha
As they say, good things come to those who wait, and, based on our late week weather, we need to wait just a bit longer for both 6th Grade Promotion and Mill Creek Day. One good thing about the wait is that both are now being held during our final week of school, which feels a little more climactic than holding them the week before. If the 2020-2021 Mill Creek school year were a novel (and it probably could be at this point!), we would just have more suspense leading to our book's climax and avoid far too much falling action (think Shakespeare's Julius Caesar where the climax occurs in Act II of V, creating A LOT of falling action!). And, honestly, it's the 2020-2021 school year, so why on earth would we hold end of year events without overcoming another obstacle or two!
The 2020-2021 school year has been quite a ride... I look forward to next week and concluding it with some really special events!
Mr. John C. Murtha
Assistant Principal

Instructional Spotlight - Ms. Guinan
As a celebration of her students and their hard work/achievements, Ms. Guinan held an "Academy Awards" in her classroom this past week! She put out the red carpet, ceremony music, and incorporated prepared speeches. Additionally, her students used their earned tickets during the year to "purchase" a movie and snack ticket. Just a great way to celebrate all the hard work and success of the year! The students themselves voted on awards for their classmates, recognizing one another's strengths and supporting one another.
Thank you, Ms. Guinan, for organizing such a wonderful event!
