7th Grade ACTS Newsletter

for the week of Sept. 8-11, 2015

Dance - Mrs. Brewington

7th dance focus: We began our study of modern dance history, learned vocabulary and a few modern dance steps. We will have a modern dance history test September 9th. Please encourage your child to bring Chromebook fully charged to class and check google classroom daily.

Please remember that your child's deposit of $100 for the New York trip is due on or before Wednesday, September 16th.

Science - Mrs. Griffin

The students will start working with the Ecology Unit 1 on Tuesday. They will have some assignments in Google Classroom, and I will also post announcements there for them. I also will still make post on my webpage in "Helpful Links".

Science - Mrs. Sexton

We are starting a new unit this week on Ecology. Students will have homework from chapter 11 of their science textbook. Specific questions are assigned in class. Student should copy and answer these questions into their science notebooks for future reference.

Math - Mr. Smith

Student completed their chapter 1 test on Friday. These will be graded and returned on Tuesday, but check powerschool over the weekend as grades will be on line. .

We start chapter 2 on Tuesday which discusses the idea of proportional relationships. This is an extremely important unit as it establishes the foundations for linear algebra.

I do plan on a quiz on Friday next week (September 11th) on the first two sections of chapter 2.

ELA - Mrs. Templeton

This week in language arts we will be studying story elements in the books the children are reading. We will continue with our relaistic fiction writing. The next vocabulary test will be on the 17th of September.

ELA & Social Studies - Mrs. Owensby

7th Grade SS

Our class will finish our study of European exploration and colonization. We will do some group work and will create a study guide for the test. We will review for the test with Kahoot.

7th Grade ELA

We will not have stems this week. We will be spending our week on narrative writing.

Social Studies - Mrs. Babb

This week students will identify and explain the political, social, and economic issues that resulted from exploration. They will learn how the Columbian Exchange expanded to include trade with the New World. They will have a test on Thursday or Friday.

Be sure to check Power School to see your child's Exploration and Expansion test grade.

Drama - Mrs. Keenan

7th grade Drama Focus has begun reading "A Midsummer Night's Dream" by William Shakespeare. We read Act 1 this week, and drew comic strips based off Scenes 1 & 2. Please join us with the PTSO on Tuesday evening for a small informal performance and Open House!

Strings - Mrs. Hrivnak

We are working on sixteenth note rhythms, syncopation, and sightreading orchestra pieces. There will be a playing quiz Friday on #79 (sixteenth note etude).

Voice - Mrs. Psomas
