Claires Court Bulletin

I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for supporting the school as fully as you have this Autumn Term. In my opinion, the sense of community that is engendered by the boys, the parents and the staff at Claires Court Junior Boys sets the ethos for the whole school - and it is an ethos full of respect, integrity, and treating others as we would like to be treated. My final assembly today (and the theme of this week) was based around the concept of ‘Our Golden Rules’, and discussions led to us considering how we can and how we have helped people less fortunate than ourselves over the Christmas period. I am always taken aback when I discover again and again that our boys not only understand their own situation, but also have a mature level of compassion and empathy with others.

On Monday in assembly Harry Anyon in Year 5 shared a poster he had made with the whole school. He has decided that rather than giving Christmas cards to all his friends this year, he would put that money towards helping people in Kenya, and his poster illustrated this beautifully. It was quite a humbling experience for everyone in the mezzanine, and we are very proud of Harry and his lovely gesture.

On to the Nativity…….and what a nativity it was! Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 treated us to a spectacular version of ‘Gabriel’s big break’. How the staff and the boys managed to take such a challenging script and turn it into a breath-taking and beautiful play is beyond me. They all did so well. Our Carol Service for the older boys and girls was also a delight, and our readers and musicians deserve a great deal of credit for their performances.

For me, it has a been a term I will never forget. My first as a Headteacher, it has been filled with some lovely memories whether they be from the classrooms, the sports fields or just from our day to day exploits. I was asked by a visitor last week why I felt that the school worked so well… answer was simple. We have a superb group of teaching staff and non-teaching staff who love working here, and this sense of teamwork not only rubs off on the pupils, but inspires them to achieve their best.

So it leaves me only to thank you again for your wonderful support this term, remind you that school starts again on 7 January 2015, ask you to read your son’s report and glow at him with pride at his achievements……...and have a safe and restful Christmas break.
