Sehome High School Mariner Memo

Week of August 10 - 14

Dear Sehome Students and Families,

I hope that you have made the most of this crazy summer and found unexpected silver-linings. I know that I have come to appreciate being able to spend time with my family and to enjoy the small things in life. We still have a month of summer left! I hope that you enjoy the sunshine and all of the beauty of Bellingham!

On Wednesday we learned from Dr. Baker's announcement that we will be starting the school year remotely. While this is certainly not the way that we hoped to have our 2020-2021 school year, we will certainly make the most of this situation. We have been busy working on the bell schedule, class rotation schedule, and redefining what remote learning will look like. Our district instructional work teams have been meeting regularly to determine the key standards for each content area and to develop learning units around these standards.

Below there is a link to the video we sent out with a review of the information. There is also a link to the Zoom meetings on Monday in case you have additional questions.

We are excited to begin planning our Freshmen Virtual Orientation, as well as our New Student Orientation. See below for additional information.

There is so much that we do not know, but we do know that we are looking forward to starting the school year, meeting our new students, and creating an even more robust remote Sehome community. We miss you! We are here for you! We cannot wait to start to the new school year very soon!

With love,

Sonia Bell

Thank you!

We know that many of you want to see your schedule and be able to see about making changes based on the change to remote learning to start the school year. We are now making some adjustments to our master schedule based on this change and will then be working on cleaning up student schedules. We ask for your patience as we work through these things.

Our counselors return to work on August 24 and will be processing student schedules and begin responding to emails. Please do not think that they did not receive your email. They will get to them as quickly as possible. Multiple emails about the same issue only makes it take longer.

If you have general questions about what might be the best option for your child, please reach out to their assigned assistant principal. They are happy to talk you through the options as we know them right now.
