A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL BAME
Dear Laurel Park Families,
It is officially Spring! We are thankful for the gift of warmer weather, especially for our daily recess blocks. We are also fully prepared to experience more weather resulting in the need for rain gear and warm clothing before we can get too excited! Please make sure that you child has access to layered clothing during the school day, including a change of clothes, just in case they have an accident. If you would like to donate clothing to our Front Office closet, please note that we are in need of size 6 - 10 girls shorts/pants. We are always thankful for any donations!
Join us for our Spring Spruce Up Day this Sunday, March 31st. We will begin at 1:00 pm and conclude at 4:00 pm. We hope to see many teachers, parents, and students on Sunday afternoon. Right now, the weather is predicted to be close to 70 degrees!
Our staff family would like to thank our wonderful PTA for the amazing support and care they have provided us this school year (and always). Many schools are not as fortunate to have such amazing volunteers. We want to maintain our strong community collaboration for years to come. As principal, I work closely with our PTA Board to ensure that our school reflects the values of the families we serve. Please consider volunteering to fill a PTA board position for the 2019-2020 school year!

Moving Schools for the 2019-2020 School Year?
A Message from our PTA Board
We have a tradition of a strong and supportive PTA at Laurel Park Elementary. Our current PTA board has graciously served for the last 2 years. It is now time to elect new leaders. The mission of the PTA is to make every child's potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. We can only achieve this mission with your help! We are in need of a parent to lead the PTA into the next school year.
The LPES PTA provides educational enrichment for our children through our many programs, cultural arts activities, and educational subscriptions. Our programs also help build community among our families by hosting events such as: Health and Wellness programs, Spirit Nights, Book Fairs, Garden Clubs, and Family Fun Night. The LPES PTA supports our school and it's staff through our advocacy efforts, staff support and wellness, and sprucing up the school grounds. Finally, the LPES PTA provides fundraising dollars to purchase technology for the classroom, updating collaborative learning spaces outdoor learning enviornments, and book for the media center. All of this and more is possible if we have volunteers to fill our PTA Board.
Our new board will consist of a President, Secretary, Treasurer, VP of Fundraising, and VP of Programs. We have had some volunteers step up, however we are in great need of a PTA President. Our current PTA president, Stephanie Mitchell, is happy to talk to anyone who might be interested in this position. You can reach Stephanie at mitchellsteph2011@gmail.com.
If there are other positions in which you are interested, please fill out the Google Form below and someone from the PTA nominating committee will be in touch with you.

Cooking Up Character is Back!
Come join Cooking Up Character, a character building leadership service project club, at Laurel Park Elementary. Children will develop their character by learning new skills and applying them in a monthly service project. Our community service will focus on these areas: Our School, Our Families, Our World (Nature), Seniors, and Our Community. Some sample projects are: building & painting wooden planters for your neighbors, learning about importance of butterflies (taught by Crowder Park Staff) and planting a butterfly garden, visiting with seniors to sing holiday songs and help them make mini gingerbread houses, making dessert treats/thank you notes for firemen at a local Fire Station to thank them for their service to us, and lots more! The projects will help children learn to focus on the needs of others and learn new skills at the same time! If there is a service project that you have in mind, that means a lot to your family, please send Michael Hitchcock an email. More details on each project to follow after registration. Registration limited to 15 students. More details on club at www.cookingupcharacter.com. Direct question to Michael Hitchcock at Michael.Hitchcock@ymcatriangle.org
