Additional Info (reminder)
*Students can bring lunch boxes to school.
*Largely as a result of the pandemic, there are some supply chain issues with our food service vendors. This will not affect the ability of kids to get fed, but it will limit their options at least for the beginning of the school year, and may also require some last minute substitutions for students who have ordered meals.
*Oakland has had UV air filtration installed in the majority of the building. (All spaces that would hold groups larger than half a dozen kids.) This is a combination of rooftop units and in room units, and when combined with our already top notch traditional HVAC system gives us quite possibly an air filtration system that is as good as any in the state. You can learn some more about it at the link below.
One Last Informational Tidbit (reminder)
It is clearly an understatement to say that we have had a challenging last 18 months. A clear offshoot of this is that many of our kids and families are struggling with any number of things, be it social-emotional, financial, or any variety of issues that have been amplified by the pandemic. With this being said, please know that Oakland is a community that looks to support all of its members, both with school resources and our network of outside supports.
If you find your kids or yourselves in any sort of need, please feel free to reach out to me at sam.lynch@royaloakschools.org. Any request for assistance will be discreet, with full intent of following the wishes of each and everyone of you with regards to who might be made aware of your challenges.
In short, we care deeply and want to help.
School Lunch Update (reminder)
There have been some questions regarding the school lunches as we have started off this school year. We want to clear up a couple of possible misconceptions, along with providing some information about the plan going forward.
Given the changing logistics of housing students in the cafeteria during the pandemic and having lunch be available free to all students, combined with a food supply chain issue (that is also pandemic related), the decision was made to temporarily start the year with a bag lunch while new routines were worked out. In order to better describe the contents of some of the bag lunches, we have posted a new lunch menu for the remaining days of September. The updated elementary lunch menu can be found here. We will transition to hot lunch for elementary students on Monday, September 27 and a new menu will be distributed.
Thank you all for your patience and continued support as we work to better inform you in the name of being a community that best serves our kids. As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Homework Club (reminder)
Homework Club is available for students on all Late Start Wednesdays from 8:20-9:20 a.m. Please click on the following link to register for Homework Club:
Blessings in a Backpack (reminder)
In light of the tough economic times facing our area, we are attempting to help Royal Oak Schools families by making sure that all of our children have enough food. “Blessings in a Backpack” is a program designed to provide students on the free and reduced lunch with enough food for three meals a day during the weekends. This program, sponsored by the North Woodward Community Foundation and the Meijer Corporation has begun in Royal Oak Schools.
If you agree to take part in this program, during the school year, your child will receive a bag every Friday, filled with food for the weekend. The simple meals may include food like macaroni and cheese, beef ravioli, fruit granola bars, peanut butter, soups, juice and other items.
If you would like to have your child participate in this program, click on the link, fill out the form, and return it to your child’s school AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
Walking Buddies (reminder)
Please note, as many of you are aware, that the Club has postponed their opening until October 4th.
