HYMAN FINE NEWS FLASH
February 3, 2024
Good afternoon Hyman Fine Families,
It is so nice to see the sun this morning. This sun always puts a in little more pep in my step. We ended the week on a high note. We held our monthly PBIS assembly Friday morning where students collected over 5lbs of PBIS tickets for the month of January. For this amazing accomplishment students have been rewarded with an extra recess. We also celebrated our LEXIA Snowball Challenge winner. The Blue team(Mrs. Jost, Mrs. Poluvatzick, Mrs. Borges, and Miss Hudzikiewicz) celebrated their accomplishment in style having a private winter themed lunch in the teacher's lounge Friday afternoon.
Please find some important reminders below.
REMINDERS:
Winter Break is only two short weeks away (February 19-23). Friday, February 16th is an early release day (12:25 PM).
The cold winter weather is here. When our playground is clear and the "Feels Like" temperature is 25 degrees or above we will be going outside for recess. Please make sure students come to school dressed to be outside for recess.
Change of Clothes:
We continue to have a big increase in the number of accidents students are having during the school day. We do not have clothes for students to change into. Please remember to have a change of clothes in your child's backpack.
Valentine's Day Celebrations:
With February and Valentine's Day celebrations right around the corner, I wanted to make sure families are aware of the District's food policy. No food or candy items are allowed to be sent to be shared with classmates. Pencils, stickers, and cards are all perfectly fine to send in if you choose.

A Night to Discover: APS Student Learning and Community Partnership Showcase
On March 14, 2024, from 6:00-7:30 PM, Attleboro Public Schools (APS) will host A Night to Discover: APS Student Learning and Community Partnership Showcase. Now in the second year of this annual event, this evening is an opportunity for APS staff, students, families, and community organizations to come together as students throughout the district display their learning experiences and local community resources share information about their services and programs. The goal of this event is to bring all stakeholders from the community together to celebrate student successes and share resources. More information to come soon. We look forward to seeing you there!
MCIES Survey
Each year, students in grades 3-12 participate in a survey as part of Attleboro's involvement in the Massachusetts Consortium for Innovative Education Assessment (MCIEA) which aims to help schools and the community measure school quality outside of simply relying on MCAS data. Our third and fourth grade students will be participating in this year's survey between now and February break. The survey takes approximately 15-20 minutes. If you would like to see the results of previous surveys/questions, please visit the MCIEA School Quality Measures Dashboard.

Attendance
Attendance is critical to the success of your child. They cannot learn if they are not in school. We are asking that your child attend school daily and be on time. We only have them for 180 school days and want to make the most of it. With that being said, there are real and valid reasons why a child needs to be absent, and we 100% support that. Please keep communication open with the school regarding attendance. We are here to support you.

BREAKFAST, LUNCH, and SNACK
BREAKFAST & LUNCH
Massachusetts has extended free school meals for another year. This means that breakfast and lunch will continue to be served at no cost to all students. Please note that even though meals will be free for all, it remains essential for families to complete the household Application for Free and Reduced Price Meals for the 2023-2024 school year. We strongly encourage ALL families to submit this form as it allows us to determine eligibility for P-EBT benefits and waive or reduce transportation, athletics, and other fees. Documenting qualifying families also significantly impacts state funding for our district, so completing the form is a direct way to support our schools.
We ask that lunches from home are nut free when possible.
SNACKS
While sending your child to school with a snack please keep in mind our classrooms are nut safe and no student will be allowed to eat a snack if it is not nut free.
Free / Reduced Lunch Applications
Much like the transportation application process, we will not be sending home paper copies of the SY 23-24 Free/Reduced Lunch applications this year. We will be sending out a series of notifications to families with this information and it is included in the New School Year Information document above. We will send a small number of paper applications to each building so that you have them available if they are requested. Lunch applications can be completed online and are found on the Food Services webpage here:
