Dear Mason Families,
I hope this message finds you healthy and safe!
This week was tough to say the least as I watched our world struggle with civil unrest around the recent events that originated in Minneapolis. My family and I had countless conversations around basic human rights, differences and injustice. It is sad that our world is in such turmoil lately and conversations surrounding basic human rights are still up for debate. The past few weeks we all have heard the names of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery mentioned as they lost their lives in unthinkable ways right in front of our eyes. This was devastating and traumatic for all of us to see.
I know I am not the only one in pain and I am sure our children have questions. Let's not forget that they are seeing this too. These images and conversations are on almost every social media platform, tv and radio channel at this point. Not to mention the protests that are forming in almost every major city including Detroit. One of my mentors reminded me this weekend that it takes a village and nothing can be done in isolation. It truly does take a village to not only support our children but to make the world a better place for them to grow up in. WE are all in this together. I am honored to stand shoulder to shoulder with the Mason Community as we do our part to make sure our children are equipped with the tools necessary to go into the world and be productive citizens.
As I mentioned to our Mason Staff earlier today, we know that we will need to listen to our students and community discuss their feelings around these difficult situations. Unfortunately, there isn't a shelter big enough to keep these injustices away from our youth. I applaud all of you for having these courageous conversations with your child at home. They take their cues about how to navigate this biased world from us and together, collectively, is the only way we are going to make any positive change in this world.
Thanks for being an active member of the Mason Community and being a part of the change,

Packing Week for Mason Teachers-
This week, Mason staff will be using the bulk of their instructional time packing up their classrooms for the summer. Please be aware that teachers will not be having google hangouts with families this week, the response time to emails/texts/requests may be delayed and the work load for students will be decreased. Thank you in advance for your patience as we do our best to finish the year strong.

Students will also be receive their yearbook and any medication they have at Mason during their pick up time slot.
