YOUR FAQ
Can I use a wireless connection while I'm teaching?
No, you must use your CAT5 cable that was in your mailbox. The only exception are our Mac users.
Did technology run a test to make sure this is really going to work on Tuesday?
Yes. They ran a test, and our building can have 500 users on Google Meet simultaneously... however, we're not going to do that obviously.
But I really LOVE LOVE Zoom... can't I just use Zoom with my students?
Absolutely not. Interactions between staff and students must occur on Google Meet and with the district Google accounts only.
I have a tech problem... what do I do?
We MUST submit a Help Desk ticket for hardware and software issues. We need to break the habit of sending emails or stopping tech to fix the issues... myself included. They'll be able to track if they need more support or device/connection issues this way. I suggest adding the Help Desk page to your bookmarks. Greg DeShong will start his day at EV on Tuesday morning in case we need tech support.
Do I need to ask permission to record a Google Meet session?
No
Where do I find the Google Classroom codes and Google Meet links?
https://docs.google.com/document/d/15yFQpVN-cx02YCHH0BOzqyzdmp0_rMFJqh5Lsk0u1J0/edit?usp=sharing
How do I take attendance?
Mark who was present for your morning meeting. Submit the names of ABSENT students only to Karen in Skyward no later than 9:15. If a student who you marked absent shows up later (before 3:10), send an email to Karen to let her know the student arrived late to school. You do not need to let Karen know a specific time.
Where do the in-person students eat lunch?
Room 123 (health/guidance room)
How do we order lunch?
Electronically. I'm waiting on the link to share.
Who brings the students to specials and lunch?
One of the grade level teachers
Who is on duty for lunch and recess?
I will be taking lunch duty for the first and second weeks. I will need volunteers to take recess duty for the first and second weeks. We need 1-2 adults for each recess.
Who is on duty for AM/PM dismissal?
All hands on deck for the first and second weeks. Classroom teachers greet students at their classroom doors and keep students in their classrooms for dismissal until their bus/name appears on the board at dismissal time. All non-classroom teachers are helping in the hallways, stairwells, and outside.
But what about duties after the first two weeks?
I'll send the schedule once I see how things operate.
Where do I find the staff handbook?
Right HERE. I recommend adding this as a bookmark too.
What do Wednesdays look like again?
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1iC6K9FNjHtfa_H7aAgoQcOi2jgkbhbt_Xp-4vLygBKk/edit?usp=sharing
Can we use both sides of the hallway?
For now, yes. As long as students and staff are walking tight to the right, facing forward, spacing so that they cannot touch the person in front of them, and wearing a face mask.
How do we use the stairwells?
We cannot maintain a six foot distance. Please teach students that we need to listen for people coming up or down before going on the stairs. If this becomes problematic, then we will need to set certain stairwells as up or as down.
When do students use the gang bathrooms?
Please build in "class" visits to the gang bathrooms. If a student is in special area, contact another special area teacher who does not have a class or the main office for assistance. Please try to have students use the restroom before lunch/recess and special areas.
When do students arrive?
They could arrive to your classroom earlier than 8:15. We'll have to wait and see what the flow of our buses look like.
What if a student needs to see someone... like the nurse or counselor?
You must call or text on Google Hangout before sending the student to that person. Remind the student of hallway expectations: walk with a purpose, mask on at all times, and tight to the right.
Can I meet 1:1 with a student on Google Meet?
Chrissie is checking with Dr. Marchini on this type of situation as it pertains to recording the session.
Why is a student with minimal services coming four days/week?
Because of a student's 504 or IEP, they have a right to choose.
So where do they go all day and what do they do?
The student participates in learning in school in the classroom. The student gets the same amount of services as they would if all students were in school. 30 minutes of speech means the student gets 30 minutes of speech and is with the classroom teacher for the rest of the instruction. No extra services or paras will be provided. The student will spend just as much time doing asynchronous work on Accelerate as the kids at home.
What if I have to have a confidential conversation?
I suggest having that conversation during your prep time. If it's urgent, then ask another teacher to cover your class.
When do special education services start?
On September 8 for SDI and push-in supports. Learning support teachers will start assessments with students during the week of 9/14.
When do Title I services start?
Not yet. They will need to do benchmark testing starting with tier 3 students on 9/10.
What about benchmark testing for new students?
Sarah Blattner, Shawn Lavelle, and Michelle Romaniello will administer benchmark testing starting on 9/10 (starting with word lists). Michelle will prioritize seeing students who are on our IST caseload first.
Do I have to do the Pledge of Allegiance at every morning meeting?
Yes, by OJRSD Board Policy #807 and state law, students must have the opportunity to say the Pledge of Allegiance. See Lavelle's Lounge for more information.
Will we have drills?
As of now, yes. The essence of a fire drill is that we need to exit the building quickly, calmly, and not gather all together in one spot (the field) but as distanced from the building as possible and in a physically distanced manner.
Can I use books?
Yes, but they need to quarantine for 72 hours before another person can use.
Can I use paper?
Yes, but attempt to think differently and transition anything you would do on paper to an electronic format.
When can we send home supplies?
Still waiting. We're looking at our first pick-up on or before 9/16.
Who is our daytime housekeeper?
Mr. Pat Bell... hooray! Mike will work from 6:30-3:00 and Pat will work from 7:00-3:30.
