Graduation Central Class of 2020
Everything you need to know and do for graduation!
Graduation Update from the School Director
Dear Dimensions Graduate,
Congratulations on completing your high school journey and preparing for the next step in your life! You’re graduating at a historic moment as COVID-19 has impacted not only your graduation ceremony, but the world at large. While we don’t yet know what the final impact of this pandemic will be, scholars are saying it may be on par with the Great Depression or 9/11, with the changes it will mean for our world. Amazingly, most of you were born within a year of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and are graduating during a global crisis which is unprecedented in many respects.
You must be a special graduating class, destined to make a major difference in the world!
This doesn’t change the discouraging fact that your high school graduation has been impacted and that alternative plans are needed. We at DCS work to make our graduation ceremony a celebration of the diversity of accomplishments and contributions each graduate has made on their personal education and life journey. While it is not ideal, our new plan is to host a pre-recorded graduation ceremony via our website. As is our tradition, your EF will prepare and deliver a brief message to you about your journey as a student, which will be pre-recorded and inserted into the digital graduation program. The recordings will available and accessible by you and your loved ones by visiting the graduation ceremony webpage and by clicking through the program and related speeches. The website will be live on graduation day, June 12th, and will remain up through the summer for you to access at your convenience.
We would love for you to contribute photos, quotes, favorite memories, etc, in order to personalize your segment. You can submit these in the Photo/Message Submission form, below.
We want to further celebrate our graduates by featuring our grads in social media posts created by the graduates and/or their loved ones. Details on this are in the Photo Submission form, below. We also would love to see how you are celebrating at home. Feel free to share photos, videos, shout-outs, etc, on our Counseling Corner or Learning Center Facebook Groups or directly with your EF.
Additionally, we would like to provide you with celebratory yard signs for you to display in your yard or home. These will be available next week during the Book Return drop-off at the Broadway & Mission Valley learning centers. Please contact your Educational Facilitator as soon as possible to arrange for your yard sign pick-up.
We understand that this isn’t what you imagined for your graduation day and that your interests may have changed. Even if you are not planning to participate in the new celebrations, we ask that all graduates please complete the Celebration Survey, below.
Congratulations, Class of 2020! You are in the home stretch and we are all so proud of you. We hope that you join us in celebrating your accomplishments & bright futures!
