News from Lions Park School
Letter from the Principal
Dear Lions Park Families,
We were so glad to welcome your children back to school on Tuesday. We hope your family enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday and some extra time together during our time off.
The snowfall on Sunday night resulted in a snow day, but it has also made our arrival and drop off times increasingly challenging. Because Lions Park School has a small amount of land and is surrounded by homes and park district property, we have limited space for drop off and pick up. Our typical issues are compounded when snow makes the streets around the school even more narrow and difficult to traverse. Our staff work hard to ensure student safety by providing safe crossing at Council and School and Council and Elm. We also have a staff member further north on School street and one who ensures safe crossing at the bus turnaround entrance. In addition to the efforts of our staff, we need cooperation from all parents and caregivers. We appreciate you being mindful of where you park or stop to drop off your children. Dropping off in the staff lot or in designated no stopping/no parking zones is prohibited, but it would also help if everyone thought carefully about even the legal parking spots. Please try to think about if your car location is going to create a hazard or disruption to traffic. Safety at drop off and pick up is a shared responsibility of all in our school community. If there are things you believe I can do to improve the situation, please don't hesitate to reach out to me.
We are looking forward to our winter concerts for second, third, and fourth grades (and fifth grade choral students) next week. Mrs. Koehlinger, our music teacher, and your children have been working hard to prepare. Students have been sent home with information sheets in their backpacks, but those are also included below for your convenience. I welcome feedback on the new format. We hope it will create a more pleasant concert experience for students and families.
