Weekly Updates from Seaborn Lee, 10.18.19
Principal Geathers
Greetings Parents/Guardians,
As we approach the upcoming holidays, candy, deserts, baked goods (store bought/homemade), or other edible items are not to be sold or distributed during school hours unless approved in advance by the administration. Students who do not adhere to this expectation are subject to disciplinary action for insubordination and all food items will be confiscated. Please discuss this expectation and possible consequences with your student(s).
This measure will help us maintain a safe environment for all students. You can help us protect your student(s) by requesting that they not eat anything given to them by another person, anything that they have not brought from your home or anything not in its original sealed package. Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping all of our students safe at school!

News from Fulton County Schools...
At its work session last night, the Fulton County School Board approved making April 21, 2020, and May 19, 2020, "Digital Learning Days" for students while maintaining them as regular work days for employees. A Digital Learning Day is an opportunity for students to engage in off-site learning instead of attending school.
Since April 21 and May 19 are state-wide election days, there is high-volume participation of the public at polling stations located in our schools, and this increases the potential for security concerns. By utilizing digital learning activities, students will be able to maintain their focus on instruction even though they are not on campus. This also allows staff the opportunity to participate in high-quality professional development to deepen their knowledge and skills.
Here is a summary of the recent calendar adjustments:
- March 13, 2020 remains a teacher workday.
- March 24, 2020 (GA Presidential primary election) will be a teacher workday.
- April 21, 2020 (state-wide election) will be a student Digital Learning Day and a teacher professional development day.
- May 19, 2020 (state-wide election) will be a student Digital Learning Day and a teacher professional development day.
Thank you for your continued support and flexibility.
Dr. Brown, Assistant Principal
Next week, students in grades 3 and 5 will be taking the Iowa Assessments. Information about your child’s academic achievement is needed to help them excel and succeed. The Iowa Assessments make this possible by providing detailed information about your child in a variety of important content areas including Reading, English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. The Iowa Assessments help teachers identify a student’s strengths and identify areas that may need additional emphasis. The results from the Assessments will provide information about your child’s performance relative to the school, the state of Iowa, and the nation. Be sure your child(ren) get plenty of rest each night, that they eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive to school on-time each morning!
Yolanda Wilcher, School Counselor
- Red Ribbon Week, a reminder to stay drug free, is October 23-31. The theme this year is “Send a Message. Stay Drug Free.” Fulton County Schools counselors, psychologists, and social workers are sending a message to students by providing buttons, pins and information on making healthy and safe choices. Students will be able to participate in campaigns to bring awareness, from wearing certain color clothing to video contest to canned food drives (“I CAN, You CAN, Be Drug Free”).
Melissa Musto, Title I Literacy Coach
We are so excited to begin our One School, One Book read of James and the Giant Peach. Your child has received their own copy of the novel, which is theirs to keep! The program emphasizes reading aloud, which means you reading the book out loud to your child as a family reading event. You have also received the reading schedule that lets you know which chapters should be read each night. There is a reading assignment each night (Monday-Thursday). In addition to reading the novel at home, your child will be participating in daily trivia contests, classroom activities related to the novel, and many school wide activities connected to the novel as well.
Mr. Smallwood, Administrative Assistant
Greetings from the PBIS Team here at Seaborn Lee. I’d like to take this time out to congratulate you all on making the Distinguished list for 2019-2020 school year. That’s right, we are in this together, and this has been a team effort. Let’s continue to encourage our children to have their PAWS-in-Effect. Have a Pawsitively awesome weekend!
Calling All Volunteers!
Please spread the word that volunteers are needed and encouraged at Seaborn Lee. If you have a neighbor who missed the volunteer orientation please have them reach out to the school, specifically, please contact Ms. DaSilva, Parent Liaison, at dasilvak@fultonschools.org for more information.

Morning and Afternoon Car Rider Line
Additionally, there have been parents leaving their cars unattended in the car rider line to come in the building. If you need to come into the building in the morning please park in the parking lot and not in the car rider zone. Please be mindful that students are entering and exiting cars thus safety is paramount!
Note: If your child is a car rider they will need a car rider number and you will need a car rider decal for your car. Every student and parent must have a decal and number that matches. If you need to pick up a decal or a number please stop by the front office.

Attendance Updates
At Seaborn Lee we are closely monitoring student absences and late arrivals to school (tardy). Please make sure that your child arrives to school by 7:40am daily. We have noticed a large amount of students who are car riders arriving to school late. If your child plans to get breakfast from the cafeteria, please drop them off in plenty of time to maneuver through the cafeteria lines and make it to class before 7:40am. The breakfast line closes at 7:35am. Our teachers are eager to begin instruction at 7:40am.
It is also critical that you send in a note the next day whenever your child is absent. Student attendance is a critical factor in academic success thus we are asking for your support and assistance with sending your child to school every day.
PTA
Please make plans to join the PTA and be a part of the great things happening at Seaborn Lee!
We look forward to all of our parents joining PTA this school year. Dues are $10 per family.
