BOA Baby!
2nd in Class 4A & 4th Overall!
A Note from the Director
WOW, WHAT A WEEK! We just wrapped up another incredible week for our Johnson Jaguar Band!! We cannot be more proud of our students and what they accomplish each week! They continue to set new standards and achievements every chance they get!
This week we had a wonderful Halloween celebration with the band's annual Trunk-or-Treat event! A huge shout out to our incredible Band Boosters and all of the parents that helped set up and make this a wonderful evening for our students! Such a fun and exciting way to end a rehearsal!!
We can’t help but celebrate the BOA results from this week! Our Jaguar Band participated in the BOA Regional in Waco and came home with even more great accomplishments and awards! We headed into this contest with the intent of making finals and came away with even greater results! Not only did our Jaguar Band make finals, but we finished 2nd in Class 4A in Prelims, just behind the reigning BOA Waco Regional Champions, Bowie HS! Once finals finished and the dust settled, our Jaguars walked away with a 4th place finish overall!! Being 4th may not seem like a large accomplishment, but when put into context, it is huge!! This finish helps propel our program into an even more prestigious and elite group of bands! Those 3 bands ahead of us are BOA Super Regional Finalist, UIL State Finalist, BOA Grand National Finalist or even UIL State Champions! This 4th place finish also put us ahead of 6 bands that are advancing to the 5A UIL State Championships. Although it is bittersweet that we did not advance to the State Championships, the placement on Saturday absolutely helps reassure us of where we stand within the best 5A bands in Texas! Congrats to our Jaguar Band!!!
This week we will have a normal rehearsal schedule as we prepare for the FINAL week of our competition season! Monday and Tuesday we rehearse 5 - 8 p.m. and Thursday 5 - 7 p.m. We have Friday morning 7 a.m. rehearsal on the schedule but may move it later in the day as we prepare for the BOA Super Regional that evening! We will inform everyone if that change happens.
Also, this Friday is Band Senior Night at the Johnson vs Canyon football game in Shelton Stadium! Parents, you will receive a link this week to a Google Form to complete for our senior recognition at halftime of this game. Parents, you are also invited to be on the field with your senior as we introduce each student and their parents/escorts. We will have Chaparral Photography on-site to take pictures of our seniors and their parents during their recognition and immediately following halftime. Parents, it is important to note that due to our large senior class (40) and the limited time provided for the football halftime, each student will have between 10-15 seconds to be introduced and acknowledged! We want to make sure we proudly recognize each and every one of our seniors on this special night!
Lastly, this week we wrap up our season with two contests! Friday, we will travel to San Antonio to march in the BOA Super Regional held at the Alamo Dome and then immediately head to Shelton Stadium for the football game and senior night! Saturday, we will march in the USBands Remo Cup at Kelly Reeves Stadium in Round Rock! Saturday afternoon we will find out if we made finals for either of these two contests! Once we obtain the results from both we will know where and when we get to give our FINAL competition performance of “Young Person’s Guide to the Neither World”!!
Let’s keep pushing forward and as always: It’s a Great Day to be a Jaguar!

Special Request from a band parent
Parents,
Please help me in thanking our devoted truck driver and honorary Pit Crew member, Bert Bronaugh. Bert is a teacher at JHS, who happens to have his CDL. He's driven our band trailer since our first season, and can't stop himself from jumping in to help, whenever or wherever he might be needed - ALL AS A VOLUNTEER. He has no skin in the game. With no children in the band, or even at the school, he puts in much time, love, and effort while refusing to be paid for any of it. Bert is an amazing part of our band family!
I've ordered a large thank you card for parents and students to sign. (I plan to give it to him at our competition on 11/6.) If you would like to donate towards a gift card at his favorite store, you can find me at any of the games or competitions. I'm also able to take donations via Venmo @Melissa-Frensley.
Thanks for your help!
