News from Room 17

March 2018

In our earlier reading unit, we read informational text about how magnets work and developed infographics to illustrate severe weather safety tips. Now, we are working on our mystery unit! We are learning how writers add suspense to mystery stories. We will use what we learn to write our own stories!

In phonics, we are currently learning to read, write/ spell words with a "Bossy R" after a vowel. I posted the video below, so the kiddos could watch it again if they like! ( They loved it! ;-) )

In math, we are learning how to add and subtract 2 and 3 digit numbers! We are also learning about ways to make a dollar and how to write the time. Be sure to check out what we are doing on Dreambox!

Below is an example of one of the strategies we are learning to use to solve addition problems.

Right now, we are in the middle of a science unit called Sandy Situation.

In this unit, we explore the beach erosion of Miami Beach in Maryland and find ways to help preserve the beach.

Our last unit was Wack A Wall. We combined classes with Ms. Vananzo and use the Maker Lab space to roll up our sleeves and design some model walls that could withstand the demolition test. Check out the slow motion video of the final product!

Of course, second grade has tons of fun whether we are learning, playing, or no matter what we are doing! Here are some videos and photos of some of those moments!
