Ms. Sullivan shares PRIDE in personal project

When my grandmother died several years ago, I was given the flower quilt blocks from the 1930’s. I didn’t know what to do with them. My former student Quinn Underwood took them for me and we designed the quilt. She put it together in her advanced sewing class. Quinn was in my AP English 11 course last year and she comes in to see me sometimes between classes. I knew that she could sew and I just asked her if she was interested in helping me with it. She told me what to purchase and then she used the project as a senior assignment. I am so proud of her work and overjoyed to have the memory of my grandmother to see and use every single day.

Boy's Golf

The spring sports season was in full swing and the Varsity Boy’s Golf team had numerous new faces this year. Senior’s Cole Lueker, Gunnar Ehlers and Matthew Needham paced North this year. First time North Senior Golfers Colton Bendure, William Baldwin and Nick Wickham greatly improved their games this spring. Junior Isaac Flax and Freshman Max Tegeler rounded out the Varsity Squad.

The Junior Varsity Squad was paced by Freshman Clayton Spear, Christian Ryan, Ben Merritt, Xavier Miti, Sophomore Addison Bien and Junior Anthony Harris. We were able to get all of the tournaments this spring in around the rain and the Golfers showed improvement each week. Unfortunately though we did not qualify a golfer for the state tournament in Wichita this year, the future looks bright with all of the young talent coming back next year.

North Staff is “Keepin’ It Real”……. “Fit”, that is!!

As the spring semester wins down, many of the Shawnee Mission North faculty and staff have been doing their part to keep as fit as possible, participating in a number of healthy physical activities and events.

Some staff have taken advantage of the North swimming pool to stay in shape this spring, while others have attended faculty-led yoga sessions after school to work both mind and body.

As the temperatures have finally warmed up, the bicycles and running shoes have become much more active as well. Our North staff has a number of distance runners who have recently competed in various races around the region and country. Some notables include Associate Principal David Ewers, who ran the 2018 Indianapolis Marathon and was fast enough to have a qualifying time to potentially run in the Boston Marathon next year. Britt Sherer just completed running in the Boston Marathon on April 15th, as many North classrooms tracked her race online or on various apps.

Track and Cross Country coach Aaron Davidson is routinely finishing in the Top 5 in various races, including a number of Half Marathons. Cody Fothergill and Reed Fagan have also recently completed the Kansas City Marathon and half marathons. Fothergill and Caedran Sullivan also just completed the Kansas City Triathlon, braving the 57 Degree water temperature at Longview Lake on Mother’s Day.

Countless other staff are doing their own individual activities and events to stay in shape, understanding that age and busy schedules are no excuses for “keepin’ it real fit”!!
