Dear Pawsome Families,
Happy New Year!! We hope you all enjoyed your winter break and your students are rested, recharged, healthy, and ready to come back to learn. Below are just a few friendly reminders to keep us all healthy as we move into the new year. As a district, we are encouraging mask wearing and will be providing extra opportunities for hand washing.
Winter Notes from the Nurse
Hi Loring Families,
As we all head home for the Holiday Break to spend time with our loved ones, I wanted to take this opportunity to remind everyone of “best practices” to prevent the spread of illness. We are seeing several cases of flu and GI illness here at Loring but not many COVID cases over the past month. Here are a few things to consider before students return to school after the break.
If your child has a fever (100.0 or above), they need to stay home from school until they are fever-free for 24 hours OFF any fever reducing medicine.
For vomiting or gastro-intestinal illnesses, your child should remain home from school for 24hrs after they have stopped vomiting. They also need to be able to tolerate a solid diet BEFORE they return to school. Sending your child back to school before they have had adequate time to recover can prolong the illness for your child and will put other students and staff at risk for getting ill.
As always, please encourage good hand washing, proper nutrition and adequate sleep to keep everyone healthy. Flu shots are also encouraged.
One benefit of the pandemic was that we did not have any cases of head lice due to the social distancing and reduced group activities. But unfortunately, lice have found a way to survive and are making an appearance again in our schools. I urge you all to check your child/ren’s heads frequently for lice and nits but especially before sleepovers, playdates and upon the return to school.
In closing, I hope you all had a happy and healthy winter break.
Take care,
Tina Cirillo
