Update from Principal Justin Campbell
Dear MUHS Community,
I would like to thank our students, staff, faculty, central office, food service, facilities and transportation departments, and parents/guardians - for a great first few months of the school year. We continue to be understaffed in many areas and our existing staff has stepped in to fill the gaps! Our bus drivers and custodial/facilities staff have been particularly impacted - thank you bus drivers and custodians for all you contribute to our school!!
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!

All of these students serve as role models for other students at MUHS. Parents, students, and nominating teachers enjoyed a wonderful breakfast prepared by Woody Danforth and his culinary students. Language in Motion
Ms. Bailey’s Ab initio year 1 class visited Middlebury College to cook with students through the Language in Motion program. MUHS students practiced their Spanish while learning to cook two Mexican dishes, enchiladas verdes and horchata, and two Venezuelan dishes, tequeños and marquesas. Middlebury College students had chosen these recipes in order to teach about dishes important to their families and their cultures. MUHS students also participated in a bachata dance class! It was a fun day full of games, cooking, dancing, using Spanish, and of course, eating.
Field Trip to Montreal, Quebec
On Wednesday 24 French students traveled to Montreal, Quebec for a day of language and culture immersion. After a crepe lunch, students explored the Biodome, had a walking tour through the snowy streets of the historical old city, and then explored Atwater Market for dinner. Students had a chance to practice their French with each other and also with the locals at these various locations, completing a scavenger hunt in French along the way. This particular trip included French 3 and DP students, French 1 and 2 students will have a chance to visit Montreal in March!

Patricia A. Hannaford Career Center Presentation and Tours On Thursday, November 17th, all 10th grade students attended a presentation to learn about the many career center programs that will be available to them during 11th and 12th grade. Brenda Logee, HCC school counselor, provided an overview of each program, and reviewed the process for students who are interested in applying for a program next year. Students signed up for program tours that will take place at the Hannaford Career Center the morning of Thursday, December 8th. For more information on HCC offerings, please visit their website here, or speak with your MUHS school counselor!
PSAT Scores and Introduction to Naviance PSAT score reports will be available in early December for those who sat for the exam in October! The school counseling team will host an information session in mid-December for students who took the PSAT on how to access reports through their College Board account, interpreting and understanding the report, and how to access SAT preparation resources. The team will also provide an Introduction to Naviance, a helpful resource for students in the college and postsecondary planning process. More information to come, please see your school counselor with any questions!
From The School Nurse
MUHS will be partnering with Addison County Home Health to host a Flu and COVID vaccine clinic for students in early December. If you would like your student to receive one or both vaccines at school, please complete this form if you have not already done so. The deadline for completion is today so we can get a rough count to home health, but if you sign your student up after today they will still be included in the vaccine clinic.
ACSD schools are seeing a heightened number of respiratory and gastrointestinal illnesses this fall. Please use this infographic to help guide you when your student is ill. Our school nurses encourage families to keep students home when they are ill and potentially contagious or not feeling well enough for learning. Please reach out anytime if you have questions or need guidance around whether or not your student should stay home and how long they should be home. Here is some helpful info on the current activity of these illnesses in Vermont.
Prevention is key this season as we expect illnesses to possibly increase and an active flu season. Hand washing throughout the day is the #1 way to prevent illness and staying home to rest when ill helps you to get better more quickly and prevent the spread of contagious viruses and other illnesses. Plenty of rest, eating a well-balanced diet, physical activity, and finding activities that bring joy and decrease stress are all important to keeping our high schoolers well!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving week!
