HOLLAND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS HAVE FUN WITH SURVIVAL SKILLS
What would you do if you were being chased by killer bees or caught in quicksand? If you don’t know then you may want to travel to the Franklin Institute like team Aspire from Holland Middle school did to try and survive these worst-case scenarios! On 11/14 team Aspire went on a quest to survive these simulated scenarios and many more at the Franklin Institute by participating in the Worst-Case Scenario exhibit. The students faced quicksand, avalanches, killer bees, virus outbreaks and much more! The exhibit is based on the book “Worse Case Scenario” and the team prepared for this challenging trip by watching some real-life situations that the exhibit was based upon and then thinking-how could I survive! It was an enlightening and fun experience for all.
HOLLAND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS LEARN FOOD FACTS IN NUTRITION LAB
Students in Holland Middle School's Family and Consumer Sciences Class learned all about the importance of reading the nutrition facts label in their panini and tomato soup lab. Students were taught how to safely use a new small appliance. After their sandwiches were made, students tasted homemade tomato soup and compared the nutrition to two different canned versions. Students learned how to read the labels to figure out the sodium, sugar, and fat contents in each soup. The class loved the experience and gained a good understanding of the effects of high levels of fat, sugar, and salt in their diets.
