More than half is in Latin America. Most in northern S. America; less in C. America and Caribbean.
Rationale for Restoration
TMF are being cleared at an alarming rate. Less than one third remains in SE Asia and Africa. Less than 50% remains in Central America. 14% of the Amazon basin is deforested; infrastructure is in place to clear 40% in next two decades.

Commercial and subsistence agriculture
Population growth/resettlement programs
Fire.
Ways to save tropical rain forests
- Teach others about the importance of the environment and how they can help save rainforests.

- Encourage people to live in a way that doesn’t hurt the environment.
- Establish parks to protect rainforests and wildlife.
- Support companies that operate in ways that minimize damage to the environment.
