Pioneer Campus Happenings:

Good Evening QES Families,

Welcome back: It was great to have students back on campus this week as we returned from break.

Winter Weather: The weather is getting colder and we are playing outside in the fresh air. Please remember to send your child with a warm coat. If there is a school closure we will post any snow closures or delays by 6:00 am to Parent Square.

Masks: Thank you for supplying your child with a mask, this helps reduce the number of masks we use and reduces the waste we see on campus.

Thank you: Thank you for your continued support as we work together to help our children explore, learn and thrive.

A Message from Principal Hollister:

January 7, 2022

Hello QES Families:

Happy New Year!

Congratulations to RJ Moore for receiving the Principal's Recognition Award! RJ was selected to represent Quincy Elementary School, Alder because of the kindness he displays every day and for his love of learning. RJ is always ready to help a friend or stranger. And he has wicked oragami skills. Way to go RJ!

We have seen more snow at Alder this week than in recent memory. Students who have boots and snow pants are allowed to play in the snow. Other students play on the paved, plowed portion of our playground. Our rules regarding snow include:

1. No throwing snow

2. No climbing on the berms ( We did allow a little snow slide building when it was safe to do so. Now the snow is too hard and icy, so we have suspended this activity)

If you have clean, gently used snow boots or snow pants we would gladly accept them to pass on to a student who could use them.

Students are completing their iReady testing this week and next. We will be looking at how much students have grown in their learning since fall, and celebrating that growth by acknowledging the students who reached their learning goals. We had planned on holding an assembly to celebrate, but we will have smaller, classroom assemblies instead, once testing is complete. We will also acknowledge those students who are meeting their goals for citizenship and kindness!

We are working through our Toolbox and continue to learn when and where to use our social and emotional tools. I've included our Toolbox poster for your reference so that you can use them at home too.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Lara Hollister, Alder Principal
