The War of 1812
Causes of The War
The biggest reason that America declared war on Britain was impressment, the British were at war with France and needed more troops to fight in the navy, so they forced American sailors to fight for them.
A group of people called the war hawks were pushing for war with Britain and had a strong political influence. The War Hawks said they should take Canada while Britain is fighting with France.
Another reason for the war with Britain was the alliance between the native Americans and Britain. The natives were encouraged by the British to attack American settlements. This angered many Americans, and helped the war hawks in there, petition for war.
