Daniel Webster Elementary School
Weekly Update:
A Message from Mrs. MacNeil
Greetings DWS Families!
It was our last full week of school and we were certainly still working hard! We started this cold and overcast week with a rainy Monday followed by the best Field Day yet! Thank you to all of our parent volunteers and Mr. P who made this day possible! On Wednesday we attended the Art Show and then stayed to listen to the DWS fourth and fifth-grade band and strings players perform and the 5th-grade chorus sing. Finally, we ended the week by celebrating our fifth-grade students who are moving on to middle school! It has certainly been tough to keep the excitement of the last few days of school contained!
Have a great weekend!
Mrs. MacNeil

Math Notebooks
Dear Families,
In the past week, your child may have brought home their Bridges and Number Corner workbooks for math. During our first year with this program, some teachers chose to print and copy the pages, rather than tear them out of the book. Other teachers may have utilized the workbook time to pull small groups for support or used various pages of the workbook depending on the needs of individuals in the class. For that reason, you may see pages that look like they were not completed. Please feel free to use any of the pages in the workbook as a review for your child over the summer! We also encourage students to participate in the iReady Summer Challenge! Look for more information about the challenge on our MPSD home page.
Have a great summer!
Last Day of School
Our last day of school is Tuesday, June 13!
Please note that dismissal is at 12:10 PM! NO Lunch will be served.
In the past, students have returned back to the school’s front driveway immediately following dismissal. Due to the nature of the craziness at the end of the school day on Tuesday and for safety reasons, we request that once students are dismissed through the easement, on bikes, or car pick-up, they do NOT return to the school grounds.
Thank you for your cooperation!
Summer Reading and Math Update
This summer the DWS Library will be open every Tuesday beginning June 27 from 8:30-11:30. These library times are NOT drop-off, so caregivers will need to stay with their students. This library time is available for looking at and checking out books, and we will have a Chromebook station set up from iReady time.
Additional information and copies of the copies are available at:

Notes from the Nurse
Happy Spring! We love seeing the students' smiling faces everyday!
Here are a few reminders -
Apply sunblock and bug spray to your children as the sun gets stronger and the bugs more active in the warmer weather.
Remember those healthy snacks and water bottles EVERY DAY!
If you are reporting your child absent due to an illness of any kind please include me in your communications. You can give me a quick call at 781-834-5045 ext 42500 or email me at kAcampbell@mpsd.org (Don’t forget the “A”). If you have any questions related to your child’s health/wellness while at school please reach out at any time.
Seasonal allergies develop when the immune system becomes over-sensitized to something in the environment, such as pollen or mold. Sneezing, watery eyes, itching and stuffy nose are common symptoms of seasonal allergies. In the spring, tree and grass pollen are most common, followed by weed pollen in July. There are many over-the-counter options to help control your child’s allergy symptoms, several of which are only given once daily. Consult your allergist or pediatrician for specific recommendations for your child’s allergy symptoms.
If your child takes allergy medication, please remember to give your students their medication daily as prescribed to help prevent developing uncomfortable allergy symptoms at school.
The American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology has some great tips on how to manage seasonal allergies. Go to https://acaai.org/allergies/seasonal-allergies for more detailed information.
KidsHealth also has lots of family-friendly, physician-reviewed health information for parents. Here is an article about seasonal allergies: https://kidshealth.org/en/parents/seasonal-allergies.html
4th Grade Physicals - Per state mandates, ALL DWS 4th grade students need to have a current signed physical from their Pediatrician/PCP. Physicals are valid for 13 months. Please have your doctor’s office fax your 4th grade students' most recent physical to 781-834-5072 or send in a copy with your child to the attention of the school nurse. Thank you to those families who have already sent in this documentation.

Driveway Dismissal Safety
As a reminder, please adhere to the DWS Dismissal Protocols if you choose to pick up your child from school (listed below). Dismissal time can be very busy and we understand that we are the late school and families are often rushing off to afterschool activities. It has been reported that some cars are pulling in and doing a U-Turn in the driveway to cut the line. Please follow the protocol and the flow of traffic pictured below so we don't compromise the safety of our children. Thank you!
Dismissal
DWS hours are 8:50am-3:30pm. Students will begin car line dismissal at 3:25 pm.
If you arrive before 3:25, please remain in your vehicle.
Please do not park your vehicle in the live line.
In the car line, students will be dismissed in order of car line up through the gym doors.
Please follow staff directions and pull all the way up to the marked location (red circle).
Please wait for the car in front of you to pull forward. Do not attempt to pass vehicles.

DWS Security Updates
As a security measure, we will not be letting visitors into the building unless you are volunteering. Visitors who have a scheduled meeting will wait in the vestibule and be escorted by the host to the meeting.
All visitors must present a valid ID - no exceptions! We understand that we know many parents/guardians, but we will be requiring ALL visitors to present their ID when they volunteer and/or pick up a student - EVERY TIME. This will be frustrating at first, but we are working hard to maintain the safety of our students.
