What are your kids up to? Math Workshop at Hillcrest

In the School District of Waukesha, students learn math through a framework called Math Workshop. This format for learning mathematics supports all learners in becoming mathematicians who can solve real world problems using their sense of how numbers work, how operations can be used and how strategies can be applied.

Many parents wonder if students still learn basic math facts. The answer is "YES" and more. Our math teachers are all trained in a program called Advantage Math Recovery (AVMR) that allows them to determine exactly what areas of understanding numbers and operations a student is struggling with and what types of learning activities would help them grow. The pictures below give you an idea of what this looks like in the classroom.

Safe Arrival - Available Now!

Hillcrest is now fully up and running with the district's new attendance reporting system, Safe Arrival. Safe Arrival allows you to report an absence or appointment at any time from your phone. Our attendance line is still available for reporting absences but we encourage you to give Safe Arrival a try. We know you will find it to be an easy to use system that is available at times that work for YOU!

1) By far the easiest way to interact with the new system is by downloading the app on your phone and signing up for an account.

2) If you are not an app user and prefer to use your computer signup and login at https://go.schoolmessenger.com/

3) The phone option is still available by calling the attendance line at school. There will be a menu there to transfer your call into the new system. You may however, want to use the direct number 1-866-490-7371. By dialing direct from a phone that is registered with the district, the system should recognize the number you are calling from and be able to quickly identify your children and allow you to confirm their absence.
