February 26th is Pink T-Shirt Day.
Bullying is a major problem in schools, workplaces, homes, and over the Internet. Each year, on Pink T-Shirt Day, we are encouraged to wear something pink to symbolize that we as a society will not tolerate bullying anywhere. Take the message and remember it all year long.
It is so important that victims of bullying know they are not alone and there is help and support available. Wearing a pink shirt on this day sends a strong message to them that others care. Often, the simple act of wearing a shirt can start conversations - conversations can be a big step towards healing and helping!

12th Grader, Kitti, Included in FOR LOVE OF ART: Annual Youth Exhibition & Competition
Our senior, Kitti, has a piece included in the FOR THE LOVE OF ART in Carmel this year, and her piece sold on opening night! FOR THE LOVE OF ART "began at the Carmel Art Association in 1947... The program is now an annual part of the CAA’s calendar showcasing the efforts of 70 to 80 young Monterey County artists each year. Currently, all high schools in Monterey County are invited to select 5 junior and/or senior students to submit pieces. The CAA provides 14” square wooden art panels to the entrants to create an even starting point and eliminate the need for students to frame their pieces."
The 2020 exhibit runs from February 6 through March 3. Sixty-seven students are participating.
Any current 10th or 11th graders who are interested in participating next year should let Ms. Kirshner know. According to the CAA, "participants learn what is expected of successful professional artists when seeking representation in a gallery or exhibition, through this ‘real world’ art experience. The curriculum includes making and fulfilling commitments, meeting deadlines and learning how to communicate the meaning of their art by writing an artist statement."
FOR THE LOVE OF ART is supported by a grant from the Arts Council for Monterey County with support from the Monterey County Board of Supervisors, an endowment from the Barnet Segal Charitable Trust and private donations to the CAA’s Marie Selig Memorial Education Fund.
Student-Led Rock Climbing Club: Date Update
Due to a delay in the re-opening of Sanctuary Rock Gym, the first meeting of the rock climing club has been delayed to the first week of March. This club will consist of going to Sanctuary Rock Gym in Seaside two times per week for a one-hour duration after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 - 4:30. If your child is interested in joining this club, please fill out the online safety liability wavier here: https://waiver.smartwaiver.com/w/5d8bce80a4497/web/
Students interested in joining the club will need to join as members at Sanctuary, which costs $50 per month with a student ID.
Though faculty and staff are welcome to join us, this is a student-led club.
You are welcome to email the club's leader, 12th grader Ethan Benas, at ebenas@chartwell.org.
