ALL IN for ALL STUDENTS - May 24-28, 2021
Weekly Newsletter
Parents, Guardians, and Students...Welcome!
We will highlight the weekly happenings and events at Gloria Marshall Elementary School, in Spring ISD, and in our community.
Stay in the know!
Message from Mr. Walker
Marshall Learning Community,
Thank you for your continued support through our first week of STAAR testing. Due to COVID protocols, the testing will extend into next week as well for STAAR Reading--3rd, 4th, and 5th grades.
Thank you for supporting our MyON and ST Math initiatives as well. They will come to a close this Friday, May 28th. The winning student in each contest will receive a $100 gift card. Our goal is to continue to close the COVID gaps in reading and math for all students. This is a fun way to do so.
As our school year comes to a close (June 4th is the last day for students.), please ensure students come to school masked up each day. We will continue to enforce masks for students, teachers, and parents through June 4th. Thank you for your continued support.
Have a great weekend!

Summer School 2021
Registration for Summer School is now open and we hope to see all students needing extra help in class this summer. We also are offering a self-paced enrichment program for those students who want to accelerate their learning.
For students who need grade recovery, we are offering an in-person experience at select school sites that will focus heavily on literacy and math. For students who want to enrich, we are offering an online experience accessible through the Spring ISD website and Schoology.
If your student is participating in person, the main summer school session will run from Monday, June 14 through Friday, July 2. Students in pre-K and Kindergarten will run through Thursday, July 8. The 21st Century after-school program and Special Education Extended School Year (ESY) program will be provided until July 22.
The online self-paced enrichment program will be available all summer long with a set of courses being offered in June and a second set in July.
Visit www.springisd.org/summerschool for more information and to register.
No School - May 31
In honor of Memorial Day, there will be no school on Monday, May 31. Classes will resume on Tuesday, June 1.
Tuition-Free Pre-K Program to Expand Access to More Students
We’re pleased to announce we’re expanding our full-day pre-K program next school year to allow more students to experience the benefits of a high-quality early childhood education with caring and certified teachers at no cost to families.
Specifically, we’re looking to enroll some students who wouldn’t normally be eligible because they don’t meet the usual income, language or other requirements. This expansion will ensure more young learners get the great start that a quality pre-K education provides without their families having to pay any tuition or fees.
To accommodate these students, we are setting aside some seats at nearly every elementary campus. Parents who are interested should simply register at www.springisd.org/prek and fill out the application. The only eligibility requirement is that a student must be 4 years old on or before September 1.
The deadline to apply for the free pre-K program is July 23. Families will learn whether there is space for their student starting the week of July 26. For more information, visit: www.springisd.org/prek
Performing & Visual Arts May Collaborative Showcase - May 25
The Window to Submit a Transfer Application is Now Open!
If your student is seeking to attend a school in 2021-22 for which they are not zoned, the window to submit a transfer application is now open at www.springisd.org/transfers.
Just a reminder, students attending the district’s schools of choice (Roberson Middle School, Spring Leadership Academy, Carl Wunsche Sr. High School, P-TECH at Dekaney High School, and Spring Early College Academy) are NOT considered transfer students since these schools do not have attendance boundaries. Students accepted into these programs receive transportation.
The district offers different transfer types depending on the situation. Regardless of transfer type, transportation will NOT be provided to students. More information on each of the transfer types is available at www.springisd.org/transfers.
Should you have any questions about the online transfer application, please reach out to your student’s current principal.
Applications for transfers will be accepted through Friday, June 4 and will be processed as submitted. Parents should receive a notification if the transfer request is approved, denied or waitlisted within 10 school days from when submitted. Notification will be sent via email or phone call.
Please make sure we have an updated email address and phone number for you in the Home Access Center.
Now’s the Time to Update Your Contact Information! Log into HAC TODAY!
Parents, now’s the time to update your contact information in the Home Access Center and be sure that we have an email address linked to your HAC account.
This is very important as we will need an email address to contact you over the summer with your annual student update in preparation for the 2021-22 school year.
Getting access to HAC is easy via the mySpringISD link, found on every campus website, as well as the district website. Parents who aren’t sure of their logon information should contact their school. If you already have your mySpringISD username and password, getting to HAC is just a matter of logging into the portal and then clicking on the Home Access Center icon.
Once in HAC, you can edit your contact information in the demographics section. Again, it’s very important we have an email address listed in your HAC account. If you need more details on how to access HAC or set up an email address, visit www.springisd.org/hac.
Take Part in Our Reading Colors Your World Competition and Win Prizes!
The district’s Reading Colors Your World competition started on May 10 for students in grades K-8. The event marks the third such contest this year and features prizes, including gift cards and water bottles, and there’s still time to participate!
All students need to do is log onto the mySpringISD portal between May 10 and May 28 and access the myON Reader platform, where they have access to thousands of books to read. Prizes will be awarded to the top three elementary students with the most minutes of reading time. For students in middle school, prizes will be awarded to the top three with the most books read.
Also, myOn Reading Choice Boards will be available through your child’s teacher. You can ask for a print copy or to access it digitally. Challenge yourself by completing at least two non-fiction, two poetry, and two fiction boxes!
The goal is to see all elementary and middle school students logging into myON and exploring new books!
Harris County Public Health to Host Care Kit Drives
In an effort to help mitigate the risk of COVID-19 across our community, the Spring ISD Police Department has partnered the Harris County Public Health Outreach Team to distribute Care Kits to our elementary families. Each kit will contain two adult and two kid masks, along with information on COVID-19 vaccine waitlist registration, vaccine FAQs, testing information and prevention messaging.
Care Kits will be distributed during school dismissal for each student and staff member to take home. Kits will also be available on campuses for virtual learners to pick up, along with staff members and students who may have been absent.
