SLCS District Update

Superintendent's Update
Dear SLCS Families and Staff Members,
Some of you may not be aware, but our first Snow Day Challenge was issued yesterday. Students were encouraged to have some fun outside while building a snow creature, structure, etc. Individuals were encouraged to submit a photograph including school spirit wear if possible. We were delighted to receive thirty entries. All of which were a treat to see. Our panel of judges selected the top three as the prize winners. Thanks to all who participated and see below for the winners.
The first semester at the secondary level is coming to a close in the next couple of days. A new semester can serve as a fresh start. Over the course of the next few days, I want to encourage students to take time to reflect on the things that have gone well for you this semester and how you can keep that momentum going. In addition, reflect on the things that maybe didn't go as well as you would have liked. Identify the things within your control that can help bring about the desired result and make good things happen for yourself. Seldom is success achieved by accident. It requires purposeful planning, preparation, and hard work. Do right for yourself and make it happen!
Tonight is an exciting time for many of our future students. The Kindergarten and Junior Kindergarten Welcome Event is scheduled to take place this evening at each of our elementary schools. Details are below for those who will be attending. Let me be the first to officially welcome our incoming K and JK students. We can’t wait to meet you and look forward to making your time in SLCS an amazing experience.

Snow Day Winners
Congratulations to the following for winning the Snow Day Challenge. Prizes will be delivered next week.
SLCS Speaks
Please click this link for the first episode or our new podcast known as SLCS Speaks. Each episode will focus on a staff member, student, or community member who is making an impact on SLCS. And, just as exciting, each episode will feature a guest co-host. Thanks to Centennial Middle School 7th grader Claire Judd for being our first co-host.
Special Education
South Lyon Community Schools is offering a parenting series called Positive Solutions for Families. This seven week series will be facilitated by our Early Childhood Center (ECC) social worker who will guide parents of children ages 0-5 to be the best parents possible. The group will meet every Friday starting February 3rd at 12:30 p.m. at our ECC. Any community member interested in joining our learning sessions should register early by completing the following form that can be found by clicking on this link.
TONIGHT-Kindergarten & Junior Kindergarten Welcome Event
Next year’s kindergarten and junior kindergarten students, along with one or two parents/ guardians, are invited to attend an open house welcome event on Thursday, January 26th from 6:00-7:30 at their boundary elementary school. Kindergarten and Junior Kindergarten eligibility for the 2023-24 school year:
To be eligible for Kindergarten, students must be 5 on or before September 1, 2023.
Students turning 5 between September 2 and December 1, 2023, may enroll in either Junior Kindergarten or in Kindergarten with a signed waiver.
