Homework Update:
Our homework expectations are going to be changing for the month of May through the remainder of the school year. In an attempt to prepare students as much as possible for the upcoming state assessments, we will be giving them reading passages that increase the rigor of the work they are doing. A reading passage will be coming home on Friday and needs to be returned the following week. The students will be going over the answers to the passage that week in class. Students will be expected to write their answers in complete sentences. I am sending home a resource that will remind the students how to do this. It has "RAPP" written on it. We will be reviewing this writing process tomorrow in class.
Because multiplication and division fluency are so important in third grade, we will also continue to require that students complete 40 minutes of fluency practice a week. The half sheet that has been coming home will continue to come home.
We will NO LONGER be completing Reader's Response Notebooks or the "google doc" forms this school year.
Passion Project
Pitch Day is Coming!!
On Monday, February 29th from 1:00-2:30 students will be presenting their “Passion Project”. We invite you to come and watch them present the information they have learned, as well as what they have created. This will take place in our classroom (room 45). We will also have our writing pieces from the year available for viewing. Students can “dress their best” to make a lasting impression on this big day. We hope to see you there!
Next Week:
Students will be measuring time to the nearest minute as well as begin to solve problems with elapsed time.
Writing:
We will begin the writing process with the immersion into the genre of Narrative Nonfiction. Narrative Nonfiction is a genre that involves a "story" through something in nature. There are also facts presented in small amounts throughout the story.
Reading:
We will be doing a 1 to 2 week unit on the author Nicola Davies. I have included a link to her website on our class website.
Science:
We will begin a month long unit on Ecology. This will include ecosystems and food chains/food webs. Students will be learning what ecosystems include in order to thrive. They will also learn the names and types of different animals and organisms that make up a food chain and/or food web.
