Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) is aware of Governor Hogan’s announcement that all local school systems in Maryland are authorized to begin safely re-opening. This information was shared during a state press conference this afternoon.
As previously announced in our community, all WCPS students will still begin the 2020-2021 school year through distance learning on Monday, August 31st.
Since the school building closure in the spring, WCPS has been planning for the safe return of students to our schools. Health and safety protocols have been developed. WCPS has invested nearly $500,000 for personal protective equipment to support the health of both students and staff. We are working closely with our partners at the Washington County Health Department and following evolving guidance from other health agencies.
We are eager to have students in classrooms for in-person instruction. However, we believe it is crucial to follow a safe, effective, and gradual re-opening of schools for our students, staff, and the greater Washington County community.
Please continue to stay connected with WCPS as these plans are implemented.
