Principal's Weekly Video Message
Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year!
You will notice that our theme for this year is, "Coleman 2.0: Live in a World We Design"! As we move into our fourth year at Coleman, I look forward to building on the strong foundation we have built as a community. I look forward to encouraging our students to take risks and to consider solutions to problems that have never been attempted!
Parents and families are a critical piece of The Coleman Experience. I encourage all parents to be involved in the school--take advantage of PTA volunteer opportunities, attend curriculum nights, come to our STEAM showcases, and come have a cup of coffee with me at each month's parent meeting. Your student's success depends on the home-school partnership; I hope you won't be a stranger at Coleman this year!
Please take note of information regarding Open House/Meet Your Teacher as well as important updates for the beginning of school.
Proud to be your principal,
~J.W.

Coleman Middle School Digital Learning Days!
Coleman Middle School students will participate in Digital Learning Days on September 20, November 15, and February 7. This is an opportunity for Coleman Middle School ONLY; other Gwinnett County Public Schools will hold traditional, face-to-face classes on these days. These Digital Learning Days will allow teachers to plan future transformational lessons and Problem/Project Based Learning Units for all students.
Students will use the My eCLASS student portal to log in to their eCLASS C&I course page where they will access assignments, resources, and other materials. Teachers will ensure that ALL students are aware of the expectations and location of assignments before each Digital Learning Day; teachers will also make sure students know how they will support student learning during the day.
As a parent/guardian, where can I get more information on Coleman’s Digital Learning Days?
Digital Learning Days will be discussed on the following occasions – all are welcomed and encouraged to attend:
· 6th Grade Parent Night – Thursday, July 25, 6 pm, Coleman Middle School Cafeteria
· Open House/Meet Your Teacher – Thursday, August 1, 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM
· Curriculum Night – Monday, August 26, 6 pm, Coleman Middle School Gym
· Java with JW (Principal Coffee) – Tuesday, September 17, 8:30 AM, Coleman Middle School Media Center
· Digital Learning Day Q & A Session – Tuesday, September 17, 6 pm, Coleman Middle School Cafeteria
1 Device to 1 Student Initiative
The primary focus of the 1 to 1 device deployment is to support instruction in all classes.
Every student will be issued either a Lenovo device or a Chromebook to use throughout the school day; the device must be turned in and charged at the end of each school day. At no time should any student take a school issued device off campus.
All Coleman Middle School (CMS) students must adhere to the Acceptable Use of Electronic Media (AUEM) when using their devices or the GCPS network. The primary goal of GCPS and CMS is to ensure that every student is provided with a safe and secure environment both in and out of the classroom when working with technology to enhance their educational experience.
Because each student will be issued a device for instructional use during the school day, students will not be allowed to use their own device (cell phone, laptop, I-pod, I-pad, etc.) between the hours of 8:50 AM and 4:00 PM. Consequences will be issued to students who do not comply with this school policy. Teachers will inform both students and parents in advance if phones can be used during a specific activity (i.e. taking pictures on a field trip, etc). Should parents need to communicate with their child during the school day, they need to call the appropriate grade level office.
Parents will sign an Acceptable Use Agreement with beginning of the year documents in August.
Students will sign an Acceptable Use Agreement during the first week of school.

Morning Help Sessions
Car Riders/Bikers/Walkers
We encourage all students to ride the bus in an effort to ease the congestion that is
created on Hill Street and Brock Road. We ask that you read the following procedures carefully to ensure that your child will be safe each school day if they are being transported by car.
Please go to the following link to view our car rider procedures: https://youtu.be/0byEZnZCLqM
Morning drop off for students will take place in the back parking lot. We will use the
entire sidewalk to unload students. Please do not park your car in the parking lot, on
Brock Rd, on Hill Street, or in neighborhoods to send your child or walk your child across
the car rider lane. If you have business in the building, please enter through the front
doors of the school.
Our staff will close the car rider line at 9:20 AM. Students will be marked tardy if they are not in their classroom by 9:20 AM.
At the end of the school day, children will remain in a supervised area until someone picks them up from school. To pick up your child, you must enter through Brock Road and proceed through our parking lots to the sidewalk directly in front of our entrance. Do not pull around other cars in the line or park your car and walk up to get your child.
Your car must be totally stopped before your child will be permitted to step out to enter your vehicle.
For the safety of our students, please do not enter the bus lane during student drop off
and pick up times.
Students may not be dropped off before 8:50 AM as we cannot guarantee adult supervision until that time.
Please remain in your car at all times.
Walkers and bike riders should enter the building using the door located by the gym. Walkers must always use public sidewalks. Bike riders may use the bike rack located behind the school.
VIP Parking Spots Available for FAST Morning Drop-Off and Afternoon Pick-Up!
