Mrs. Boschen's Weekly Update

September 14, 2016

This Week

In math this week we are finishing up our first unit with rounding. We are also thinking about what happens to the value of a number when we round. Today we had a moment of discovery that you can round down to zero!

In reading, students have selected a realistic fiction book to be reading. This is a book that is based on their lexile range from the MAPS test taken last Friday. Students are allowed to read it at home or at school, with a completion date of September 26.

We are also finishing up our first social studies unit on biomes, which should be complete early next week. Students are discovering that different types of resources use different features to make it easy for us to find the information that we need. We are also learning about team work, "divide and conquer" to get things done efficiently!

Finally, we are starting our first science and reading unit on extreme weather. This is definitely a unit that students enjoy on many levels. We will be completing a STEM challenge to get started, please see below for a list of materials that we are looking for.
