SBE Tech Lab
Focus: Mediascape and Other Tech Happenings
Why the Mediascape?
Kids can access and share information quickly and easily. It allows for technology integration at the highest level and it's exciting and engaging! One student was overheard exclaiming, "Cool! We don't have to huddle around one iPad!"
Can students access websites without having to type long URL's?
Yes! If your activities are posted in itslearning this makes it simple for students to get there using their devices. They won't have to type in long web addresses. Just let us know and we will create any qr code that you need!
Does the media center provide adaptors?
Yes! We now have adaptors for many devices including iPads, iPad minis, Samsung Notes, Google Chrome Books, and the new iPhone 6's. We even have iPads that can be used with the Mediascape for your lesson!
Kids focused on the Mediascape
Even the youngest kids can use it! It makes participating in the lesson and sharing information easy for a small or large group.
Qr Codes are posted for many websites-itslearning, Wixie, SBE Homepage
Students have been asked in Tech Lab to download a qr code reader and have practiced using it on their devices.
Students created timelines
Students used timelines in Wixie and Nettrekker. They did their research using Nettrekker and World Book Online. The Mediascape makes technology integration seamless because four devices can be connected at one time. This eliminated the need for only having to rely on one device.
Mrs. Bennett's Gingerbread Lesson
Students used qr codes to navigate to the 360cities.net site and discovered the perfect setting for their original gingerbread stories. Each student had a different geographic location on his screen. After finding the perfect setting, students took a screen shot and uploaded the image to itslearning to be used later with their writing.
This is a great collaborative space! Each student had the opportunity to lead the group. As they explored their setting, students discussed how to incorporate the details of the setting into their stories.
Students used different monitors for exploring new sites. This lesson was done through itslearning and used symbaloo, .jpg images, and several different websites for students to navigate through. By the end of the lesson, students had many creative ideas for their own gingerbread stories!
Ms. Parham's class compared itslearning courses
Students compared four different courses in itslearning to learn to decide which one to log-on to.
This helped kids visualize the differences in each course and think critically in order to navigate to the correct one.
Students compared and contrasted projects in Wixie.
Ms. Folsom's Class learning how to choose a course
Students first learned where her "conduct" course is located.
Half of her class had devices and the other half used desktops to complete their assignment.
Students posted on a discussion board and replied to each other. Discussion boards motivate students to build on each other's ideas!
Mrs. Pfister's class compared and contrasted
Students learned to use different types of media to compare and contrast informational writing.
Students wrote notes to create their Venn Diagram. These boards are very light and can be moved to different areas in the media center for group work.
Students were truly engaged in the video on the top screen.
Lots of other learning going on in the media center, too!
Mrs. Ragatz's Class
Her students practiced navigating between her itslearning conduct course and specials courses in the media lab.
Students practicing the piano via the Virtuoso App
Ms. Woodring's Class
Students worked on a discussion board and practiced navigating between her itslearning conduct course and specials courses in the media lab. They did a great job!
