Andrews Elementary
On Wings of Excellence - 05/018/2018
Dear Andrews Family,
On behalf of our entire school community, I want to say congratulations to you and your students! Our school was recently recognized as a 2017-2018 Educational Results Partnership (ERP) Honor Roll School for our high achievement and student success! The Honor Roll program, sponsored by the Institute for Productivity in Education (IPE), is part of a national effort to identify higher-performing schools and districts that are improving student outcomes. Andrews is one of 729 public schools in Texas to be recognized.
The 2017-2018 ERP Honor Roll utilizes public school student achievement data to identify successful schools and districts. Our school stands above others in the state because of our demonstrated ability to get students to grade level achievement and beyond.
Schools that receive the ERP Honor Roll distinction have demonstrated consistent high levels of student academic achievement, improvement in achievement levels over time, and a reduction in achievement gaps among student populations.
Here are a few important facts about the ERP Honor Roll:
- It is the only award given in collaboration with business leaders.
- It includes graduation and dropout rate data.
- It establishes a higher bar of performance than any other award.
- It is conducted by Educational Results Partnership, a nonprofit organization that maintains the nation's largest database on student achievement.
We did not apply for this award. Our results led them to us! Because of our accomplishment, we will be featured on the ERP Honor Roll website.
We are thankful for the hard work of our students and teachers here at Andrews Elementary School! This recognition is a testament to the sustained focus on academic results and commitment to student success that our school and parent community have shown over the years.
Again, congratulations - and let's keep up the great work!
Sincerely,
Dr. Joy Lovell, Principal
Andrews Elementary

May Medication Pick-Up
Please remember to stop by the clinic to pick-up your child’s medication on or before the last day of school. Medication cannot be sent home with the student. According to PISD guidelines, all medication that is not picked-up by the last day of school will be destroyed.
If you are planning to bring medication to school for next year, please remember to bring the medication in its original packaging, including the pharmacy prescription label if appropriate. Also, make sure the medication has a current expiration date.
The week before school starts, August 6th – 10th, is a good time to drop off medications, forms, and supplies.
Nurse's News
Did you know that the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends children be seen by their doctor at least once a year? As children grow, it is important for their doctor to monitor their overall health. This helps detect health concerns before they worsen or your child requires a trip to the emergency department. Regular check-ups are also a good way for children and parents to build relationships with their doctor.
The new school year will be here before we know it. A physical exam fulfills the same need as an annual check-up. Depending on your child’s age and medical history, these appointments can include a physical exam, eye exam, hearing exam and lab tests. This is also a perfect time to make sure your child is up-to-date with all recommended immunizations.
Huffman Elementary School Enters Second Year of IB Candidacy
Now is the time to join the Huffman community of learners as the school enters its second year of IB candidacy, with an expected authorization for the 2019-2020 school year. As the first elementary academy in Plano ISD, there is much to celebrate. The Primary Years Programme (PYP) is a learning experience that integrates multiple subject areas into a student-centered inquiry environment. Students join with highly trained teachers to create a community of learners in which everyone has ownership and participates in the learning process. PYP concepts and skills reach beyond required learning to incorporate character development and the type of global focus that leads students to a greater understanding of an increasingly complex world. Plano ISD invites you to consider Huffman Elementary for your child’s academic needs. Please contact PYP Coordinator Amy Moore at amy.moore@pisd.edu or Principal Jamey Allen at jamey.allen@pisd.edu if you would like to schedule a tour or obtain more information. For information on transfers, visit www.pisd.edu/pisdtransfer. Transfers are being accepted until June 15 or as long as space is available. Read more at www.pisd.edu/huffmanpyp.
