Avoiding, Reversing & Handling Underachievement in Gifted Students
Underachievement is a real thing with some gifted children and it can be very hard to go through as a parent. You know the outstanding capabilities that your child possesses, but their lack of effort masks those potentials to others. If this is what you are experiencing, you are not alone. While this can be very difficult to go through as a parent of a gifted student, there are tips and strategies that you can try and get to the root of what is really going on. This article from the Davidson Institute provides some helpful advice on what you can do if your gifted student is underachieving in school. Don't be afraid to reach out to your school, your child's teacher, and your gifted coordinator about this. It takes a team to work through the root cause of underachievement.
Check These Out!
Have you checked out Wordle yet? This game has gained a lot of popularity recently and would be a fun game to play as a family. You get six tries to guess a 5 letter word. Try it together and see who can come up with the correct word!
Here's another twist on the above game. This one is called Absurdle. Here is a description of this game: Wordle picks a single secret word at the beginning of the game, and then you have to guess it. Absurdle gives the impression of picking a single secret word, but instead what it actually does is consider the entire list of all possible secret words which conform to your guesses so far. Each time you guess, Absurdle prunes its internal list as little as possible, attempting to intentionally prolong the game as much as possible. This game will give you a run for your money!
This list of summer activities and camps was put together by Boulder Valley School District, so not all of the activities apply to our students, but there's a great list of camps and day activities that you can register for in locations around the state and beyond.
On this site you'll find reading lists, games, and resources to keep your gifted and talented student challenged.

Check out CTYs online programs. There are quite a few individually paced classes. There is a application and course fee for every class taken, but financial aid is available.
