Monday-ish Memo
September 3, 2019 ~ Updates from HCCS
Happy September!
As we wrapped up August, it's clear that it has been a busy month! We've had Adoration Under the Stars, Back to School Night, written the Upper School Scoop, finished our 90 Days of Prayer (and "planted" our spiritual offerings in the heart of the new building's foundation), completed STAR testing, and maneuvered our way through some tricky parking, water, and recess restrictions.
Hats off to our beautiful community - parents, teachers, students, volunteers, and supporters!
This month should hopefully be a little smoother as we settle into the pleasant routine of school, friends, and Autumn! Stay tuned for fun events like Fairy Tale Friday in the coming September days!
- On a less jovial but still important note, we'll also be checking registration forms and paperwork to make sure we have all of the required items for each student. If we're missing anything for your student(s), we'll let you know so they're fully up to date!
Yours in Christ,
Beth Stern
One random SOS: The school's bearded dragon, Larry, is quite hungry for some protein (i.e. crickets). In the Volunteer section of this email is a list of the days and food he would need something this month. If you're able to lend the school (and a lizard) a hand, it would be ever so appreciated!

Office Personnel and Hours
As you may know, there are two people working in the school office (in addition to the ever busy Mrs. Martinez!). Lety Nieves (bookkeeper@holychildnm.com) has been part-time bookkeeper and Beth Stern (estern@holychildnm.com) has been part-time office manager.
As of Monday, September 9th, Lety Nieves will be full-time as she will be helping with additional projects at the school (fundraising, etc.). Beth Stern's hours will remain the same* and are posted below.
Office Manager Hours
Monday - 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Tuesday - 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Wednesday - 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
(longer if there is a teacher in-service)
Thursday: 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM
*Beth also does some of the quieter work (school communication, emails, etc. from home outside of work hours as needed). Regardless of hours, never hesitate to email and she'll get back to you as soon as she's able.

Fundraising
Las Mananitas (i.e. New Mexico Morning) Basket
Every year, each Catholic school creates a basket to be raffled off at the School Fund Dinner at the end of September. This year Mrs. Stern and Mrs. Leyba are working together to help organize the school's basket. The theme is New Mexican Morning or Las Mananitas. The colors we're shooting for are those of a lovely morning in New Mexico ... reds, yellows, oranges, etc.
- Here is the sign-up genius link if you're able to help. Thank you!
Q. Where do I put the things once I purchase them?
A. There is a red rolling card in the school office that is being used to collect items until we have a basket.
Blue Raffle Tickets
Blue raffle tickets: Each student has been given a blue raffle ticket for Baseball with the Bishop to sell for $5. Please return the ticket stub along with the $5 to your homeroom teacher. These are due by September 10th.
- If we're lucky, maybe one of us will buy and win again! The Stotts family won two years ago. You get to sit in a cool box (with food!) at an Isotopes game with Archbishop Wester!
Volunteering
Volunteer Hour Tracking Form
Chess Club Parent Volunteers
If you know how to play chess and you enjoy it, this is a great opportunity to mentor younger players while earning volunteer hours!
When: Fridays after school
Where: In the cafeteria/parish hall
Why: For the love of chess! (and for volunteer hours)
What to do if interested: Contact Mrs. Stern and/or Mrs. Martinez
Feeding Larry
The school is seeking folks to feed Larry for the month of September. His diet of crickets (from any generic pet store) and veggies is included below as a PDF. Please email Mrs. Stern to secure your day.
- Friday, September 6th
- Friday, September 13th
- Thursday, September 19th
- Friday, September 27th
If you're able to help Larry, that would be marvelous (and worth 1 volunteer hour!)!. Thank you for helping this little fellow out.
Morning Parking Aides
While this isn't officially through the school, you can still count the time you spend helping for volunteer hours.
Thank you to those noble parents who have helped make this tricky process smoother!
