A Note from Dr. Hitchman...
While March contains the most days of school during the year, April contains the least amount of days. During the 15 days of school in April however, we transition from the 3rd marking period to the 4th and final marking period of the year. After grades from the 3rd marking period have been posted, we will begin to identify students we would like to recommend to participate in our Summer Extension and Credit Recovery program. Students will be busy preparing for AP and SOL exams which will be administered in early May and we kick off the first week in April with spring spirit week activities. April is a busy time for our students and staff and we look forward to beginning the final quarter of the year; after we complete the final week of the 3rd marking period.
I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to attend one of the many events we have occurring during this month. On Friday, April 8, our SCA will be sponsoring the Bolt Bash 5K with the proceeds benefiting the non-profit organization, A Place To Be. More information is contained on the flyer below. Our next PTSO General Membership Meeting will be held on Thursday, April 21 in our school library at 7:00 pm. Our next Principal Coffee and Chat session will be held virtually on Friday, April 22 at 8:15 am. Our athletic teams are competing throughout the month on the diamond, turf, and tennis courts. Finally, our theatre students will be performing their spring musical April 29, 30, and May 1. We look forward to seeing you and your family at one of our upcoming events.
When students return to school following spring break we will have approximately 8 weeks remaining in the school year. It’s spring and the weather is getting warmer and the days are getting longer. There are a lot more activities and distractions in the spring than in the winter. I would like to challenge our students to commit themselves both in and out of the classroom to achieving the highest academic standards they can during the 4th marking period. Please know this will be different for every student. The late great long distance runner Steve Prefontaine once said, “To give anything less than your best, is to sacrifice the gift.” All of our students are gifted…they are just gifted in different ways. Whether it is academics, athletics, service, or labor, we can all give our best and work towards our fullest potential. While we still have a week remaining, I wish you and your family a wonderful and relaxing spring break. Safe travels and together, we light the way!

SENIOR HOURS ARE DUE BY MAY 1 FOR SERVICE CORD
Lightridge High School encourages students to actively engage in volunteer service throughout high school. Students who demonstrate a strong commitment to service, as evidenced by completing 100 or more hours of service by April of their senior year, will earn a service cord to be worn at graduation. Loudoun County Public Schools does not require volunteer service hours for graduation.
In order to qualify for a service cord, students must submit their volunteer hours each year during the eligibility period for each school year. The Lightridge Volunteer Service Form can be completed as many times as needed throughout the academic year to document multiple volunteer activities and service hours. Students may only count volunteer service hours from the summer before 9th grade through April of senior year. Happy volunteering!
