Thornhill Elementary PFC Newsletter
Volume 25, Issue 11, November 10, 2017
Principal's Note...
Dear Thunderbirds,
Can you believe it's November already? As the Holiday Season approaches, I can't say enough about how grateful I am to be a part of the Thornhill community. Every year, I have to think of how lucky we are to have such a great community that works together in a beautiful and caring environment.
PFC
Thanks to the Parent Faculty Club, many things get done through the generous donations of our parents' time. I was especially struck by the leadership that our parents stepped up to for our kindergarten tours. These tours are our way of highlighting our strengths and revealing our community spirit. Special Thanks to Angela and Kalkidan and their team for our kindergarten tour on Wednesday! If you want to support this effort, please sign up here.
Neighbor Appreciation
As you know ever so well, parking is challenging at Thornhill, but it does not deter enrollment. Recently, I have received complaints from neighbors that our parents are parking in their driveways and also blocking a private residence. Let's work on improving this. We have a fragile truce with many of our neighbors due to the congestion on Thornhill Drive and our is school growing. I am asking that we respect our neighbors and not block or park on their private property. I know we can do better to appreciate our neighbors. Thank you in advance for your understanding and positive citizenship.
No School November 10 In Lieu of Veterans Day
Please do what you can as a family to teach about the many sacrifices our veterans have made. Regardless of our beliefs, we have all been impacted one way or another by American vets. There are a few at Thornhill (quiet ones) and I want you to know I see you and thank you.
Have a wonderful three-day weekend!
Sincerely,
Mr. Daubenspeck

Annual Popcorn Sale
Think for a minute...Does anyone you know not like popcorn? Is it even possible to not like popcorn?
No. No, it is not. So, with that in mind...If you need a gift for the person who has everything, you can't go wrong with popcorn!
The 2nd annual Thornhill Popcorn Sale is here. Not only do you get a tasty treat, but 50 percent of all sales goes to the Thornhill PFC to support everything that makes our school great like gym, the library, music and art, our fabulous teacher aides, and so much more.
Look for flyers in your child's backpack next week. Prizes will be awarded to the top three sellers, and the top two classes in terms of money raised. Payment is due with the order form.
Important dates to remember:
Wednesday, December 6 - All order forms and payments are due back to your child's teacher or to the box in the school office.
December 18-22 - Distribution of orders before and after school.

The Auction Is Coming! What should the theme be?
Have you ever wondered how the theme of the Thornhill Auction is decided? Have you ever thought, “Gee – if someone asked me, I have THE BEST idea, but I can’t implement it so I’m not getting involved?”
Now’s your chance to share your theme with no strings attached. Email your suggestions to benefit@thornhillschool.org. We will collect ideas from now through Tuesday, November 14 (date of the PFC meeting). On November 15 we will send out a survey so you can vote on which theme you think is the most fun. The date of the auction is Saturday, February 24, 2018.
For those that are new this year, some themes in the past have been: The 80s, Blue Garden Party, and Black & White Ball. Some people love to dress up, others love to wear their nice party clothes, and others like to be casual so open-ended themes are great to accommodate all.
We look forward to hearing your theme ideas!

Thornhill Fall Sweep--Saturday, November 18
Be a part of Thornhill’s Fall Sweep!
It will be a community event where we will all pitch in to make our campus cleaner and greener...And we need as many hands as possible! Please come, even if for one hour to help sweep, pick up trash, trim dead bushes, spiffy up the gardens, and help mulch the woodland area.
We are hoping that parents and their kids can get excited about getting their hands involved in the clean and green process.

Thanksgiving Break
Well, times have changed. And like many schools now, Thornhill has the entire week of Nov. 20-24 off. With those five days, plus two weekends, you should be able to gorge accordingly and get at least a start on your Christmas shopping.
School will be back in session on Nov. 27. Which is just in time for...

TK and Kindergarten Tours
The next TK and Kindergarten tours are on the horizon. We need six parents to help out on Dec. 5 & 6 from 8:45-10:30am. However, if you can't stay for the tour but can help with coffee/goodies set-up, that would be helpful as it is just 20 to 30 minutes right around morning drop-off. Sign up here!
