Cougar Chronicles
Kent Center School's Monthly Principal Newsletter
October
I can't believe we are approaching November! It has been a busy few months at KCS! Students have adapted to classroom routines, COVID procedures, and daily life here at school. We are proud of their cooperation, flexibility, and excitement to be here every day.
As we expect students to be familiar with the expectations of our school day, we want to begin celebrating their efforts and hard work. In our lobby, we are creating a bulletin board that celebrates our accomplishments. KCS staff will be looking for students who go above and beyond to follow the Cougar Promise, excel in learning practice areas, or show random acts of kindness. Student names will be submitted to the office and entered into a drawing to be a "Star Cougar." Their names and pictures will be displayed on our bulletin board and shared with families on our Facebook page. We would also like to celebrate staff members! Students and staff will have the opportunity to nominate a staff member to be entered into a drawing as a "Proud Pineapple." The pineapple is a symbol of "welcome" and one we use between colleagues at KCS to learn from and support each other. Staff names and pictures will also be displayed on our bulletin board and shared with families.
The mid-term of the trimester was on October 12. Parents of students in grades 3-8 should have received communication from teachers IF their child currently has a 1 or 2 in any of the learning practice areas or Unified Arts classes or an NYP in any core academic subject.
We look forward to seeing parents at parent-teacher conferences next week. Students, with the support of their teachers, have been working hard to develop individual goals to focus on this year. We encourage you to ask your child about their goal and discuss strategies that may help work towards achieving that goal.
As always, thank you for your continued support of our school community.
Best,
Michelle Mott
