IN THE STEPS OF MARTIN LUTHER KING JR., I WILL...
SPRING PLAY AUDITIONS
Our Spring Play is Game of Tiaras! It is a mashup of Shakespeare's King Lear and the TV series Game of Thrones, done by Disney-style Princesses and other characters in the Disney-style universe. It will be done live online using Zoom or Google Meet, the audience will be "attendees" at a webinar, with the cast as the "presenters" on a panel. It is a farce, with broad comedy and silly situations. Auditions are on February 11th and 12th. Rehearsals begin February 16th. We will rehearse four days a week. The show runs April 23, 24, 25 (after spring break.) For more information, please email Ms. Grosso at alicia.grosso@bremertonschools.org
STUDENT MENTAL HEALTH WORKSHOP
Are you looking for suggestions on how to manage your time and your stress? Would you like to be able to communicate your emotional needs effectively while establishing appropriate boundaries with friends and family? Than we have a workshop just for you! The GSA club is hosting a FREE workshop of Positive Mental Health and Self Support/Care. The speaker of the workshop is our very own Baylee Beutel, BHS student teacher in the Health Department. She will show us some techniques to help us quiet our mind and emotions, so we can get a handle on this stressful time.
This Wellness Workshop is designed for only 30 people at a time, so it will be a first come, first served basis. Contact Ms. Krisher at: patty.krisher@bremertonschools.org for the Zoom link. This wellness workshop is scheduled for Monday, February 1st, at 4pm and will go until 4:45pm (5 pm the latest). If we get more interest than we have space, we'll run a second workshop.
Hope you will join us!
MISSING TEXTBOOKS & MATERIALS
Do you have textbooks, novels, or other materials that weren't returned to the BHS library during textbook check-in at the end of the 2019-2020 school year? It is important that these books and materials are returned as soon as possible so that students can check them out for use this year. Please look to see if you have any items and return them any Tuesday or Thursday between 8:00 am and 3:00 pm to the BHS entrance near Ohio Ave. PS - We are especially in need of novels that were used in English virtual learning during spring 2020.
FRESHMAN ENGLISH STUDENTS
Freshman English classes (Freshman English, Freshman Honors English, and Freshman Support English) will be reading the novel To Kill a Mockingbird during second semester and will need to pick up a copy of the novel from BHS. To pick up the novel, you can stop by BHS any Tuesday or Thursday between February 1st and February 12th between 8:00am and 3:00pm. If you want to pick up the novel on any weekday or without a wait, you can email Ms. McClain in advance at cindy.mcclain@bremertonschools.org, and let her know the date and time you expect to stop by the school. If you email, Ms. McClain will have the novel waiting for you at the security desk at the school entrance by Ohio Ave. If you stop by without emailing, you can still pick up the book if it is a T/Th, but expect a short wait. FRESHMAN HONOR STUDENTS will also need to pick up a copy of Lord of the Flies. All students in classes with Ms. Buium, Ms. Callender, Ms. Krisher, or Ms. Roossien must have their novels checked out (or have their own personal copy) before Tuesday, February 16th. If you are unable to obtain a book, please let your teacher know so that alternate arrangements can be made.
PACIFIC ISLANDERS' CLUB
Check out the BHS Pacific Islanders' Club and celebrate your heritage! Pacific Islanders club meets twice a month 3:30-4:30pm on Fridays. The next meetings are scheduled for January 22nd, February 5th, and February 19th. Email Ms. Buium at irina.buium@bremertonschools.org for the Google Classroom link.
