DAVIS HILL COMMUNITY UPDATE
January 6, 2020
Dear Davis Hill Community,
I hope that everyone is enjoying their weekend. Looking forward to (hopefully) having a regular, five-day week next week!
Quick Note: I observed a few students wearing varying versions of 'smart watches' over the last two days of school. Please note that these watches should only be used as 'watches' during the school day (including the bus). Students should not be using these devices to text, take photos/ videos, use as calculators or record voices. In the event that watches are used in this manner, students will receive a warning and parents will be notified. We appreciate the support in regard to this expectation.
Kindly,
Jay C. Norton, Principal
*Don't forget to read through the entire update... there are always more dates in the Upcoming Events Section. If you have any questions/ concerns- please don't hesitate to contact me/ the office.
Spell-A-Thon Fundraiser Pledges Returned (Monday)
Thank you to everyone who supported this year's Spell-A-Thon. We'll provide updates regarding our fundraising totals and next steps. THANK YOU!
Food Pantry Donation Day (Wednesday)
Hello, Davis Hill families! We are excited to continue our Davis Hill tradition of supporting the Wachusett Food Pantry and helping our neighbors who might need an extra bag or two of groceries to get by. Your monthly generosity makes a HUGE difference! Davis Hill is one of the largest contributors to our local food pantry! (see www.wachusettfoodpantry.org for more information). The 'suggestions' on this list are JUST THAT-- suggestions. We happily will take any non-perishable, non-expired items. Collections are held the first Wednesday of each month from 8:45-9:00 am. (A bin will remain in the lobby until Thursday for students who many have forgotten their donations that day.)
Dressing up is optional and should always honor the school’s dress code policy in regards to modesty and safety.
THEME FOR THE MONTH: Pajama Day!
SUGGESTIONS: Happy New You! HBA items, soaps, shampoos, personal care toothbrushes/paste
SIMCO Meeting (Thursday)
Panorama Survey (Students Grades 3-5)
Dear Parent(s)/ Guardian(s) of Third, Fourth and Fifth Grade Students:
As you may already be aware, helping students to build social emotional skills is an important goal for our school. Between January 13-24, students will be asked to complete an online questionnaire that encourages them to reflect on their own mindsets and approaches to learning. The surveys will be completed during the school day.
These questionnaires have been developed by Panorama and contain research based questions and follow up data guided action steps to support student growth in social emotional learning. Our focus will be on the following competencies: Social Awareness, Self-Management, Growth Mindset, Teacher-Student Relationships, School Safety and Sense of Belonging. It is our goal to help students and teachers learn more about themselves and how they learn best by completing this process.
If you have questions about this process or if you’d like to learn more about how these activities help meet our goals, please contact me directly. Thank you for your ongoing support of your student(s) and of our school.
