Principal's Message
Students have several learning experiences to look forward to in December, including working with several teaching artists:
- Bomani--Grade 2
- Clancy Works--Grades 3-5
- Lisa Matthews--Grade 3
With more coming in the months ahead! Teaching artists and classroom teachers collaborate to integrate music, visual arts, dance, and drama into their academic lessons in order to improve academic and social-emotional outcomes such as creativity, critical thinking, problem solving and collaboration skills.
In this practice, teachers and teaching artists collaborate. Together, they address academic and artistic questions and challenges. Building on these ideas, they plan arts integrated instruction that moves in and out of arts and non-arts subjects. The artist and teacher work together with the students, co-teaching throughout their partnership. The partners are able to see and experiment with multiple strategies of student engagement each other bring to the classroom. This strategy gives teachers greater capacity to reach all of their differentiated learners through a wide variety of creative strategies and to assess their students in ways that generate clear understandings for teachers and generate further learning for students! We are thankful to you and our PTA for supporting these learning opportunities for our SRES students!
As we look ahead to the month of December, there are many exciting activities happening! Please see below and please plan to join us!

2nd Grade's Artist in Residence
Bomani will be working with second grade to teach creative writing through song writing. The residence began with a kick-off assembly on Monday for all students in grades 2-5. It will culminate with a performance by the 2nd graders on December 6. Bomani is a seasoned performer and teacher and is currently Director of Poetry Events for the Busboys and Poets restaurants, a CBS Radio personality, and head audio-engineer for Urban-Intalek Studios. Bomani describes himself as a poet with a Hip Hop style.
PTA News & Information
The PTA would like to thank all of the families that came out to Roy Rogers for Restaurant Night. It was our best turn out ever! Also, a big thank you to the SRES Chorus for performing a couple of songs from their Winter show at the restaurant. Please join us at Silver Diner for this month's Restaurant Night. It will be on December 13 from 5-8 pm. Once again, we will have our amazing chorus there to sing some songs.
There will be no December PTA meeting.
We would also like to thank all the students that participated in the Walk-About fundraiser. All students that raised $10 or more attended a dance party. Students who raised $100 or more were treated to a pancake breakfast prepared by Mrs. Hosfelt and Mrs. Feldman. The two classes that raised the most money got to spray Mrs. Hosfelt and Mrs. Feldman with silly string. Congratulations to Mrs. Keenan and Mrs. Legge's class!
