San Joaquin Charter

A Note From Our President

Happy New Year ACSA members! The SJ Charter Board hopes that your return to work for 2021 is healthy and finds you with replenished energy. With vaccinations on the near horizon for educators, I find myself hopeful we can return to in-person ACSA collegiality and open our schools doors wide for in-person instruction. Remember to take time to take care of yourself emotionally, spiritually and physically. Reading the nominations of students for the Every Student Succeeding award reminds me of the many lives our work impacts. Stay the course, keep making a difference, and thank you for all your efforts in serving our students and families.

SJ ACSA Spring PD Save the Date

We hope you'll save the date and plan to join us for our virtual Spring professional development. Our speaker, Heidi Hayes Jacobs, will share lessons and best practices she and her team have learned from the pandemic situation around designing curriculum and instruction for blended/remote/virtual learning. Registration info will be sent in February.

Big picture

Region Equity Committee

The Equity Committee met on November 12, 2020. Here are the highlights:

We reviewed the goals of our committee and developed a common definition of Equity. Adonai Mack assigned Equity Captains to be mentors for the new committee members and he shared upcoming professional development opportunities. In support of moving the work of our committee forward, we were invited to participate in a Statewide Book Club reading of How to Be An Antiracist by Ibram Kendi.

ACSA Region 7 General Membership Assembly---Spring 2021

Please join us on Thursday, February 4th, at 5:00 (in the Zoomerland Ballroom, link below) for the Spring 2021 GMA.

ACSA Executive Director Wes Smith will be joining us to share comments and perspectives and R7 leadership reps will also be on hand to provide information and updates on region and charter activities and issues.

We will miss the energy of direct engagement, the sharing of food and drink and the conversion of colleagues. However, we will do what is needed to connect and engage, share time and info and move us collectively forward in a positive and productive manner.

Thank you all in advance.

ACSA Legislative Action

ACSA published a summary and response to Governor Newsom's January Budget Proposal for 2021-22. The article stated that "The budget proposal marks the beginning of the funding conversation for the 2021-22 year. As previously noted, unlike most years, negotiations related to multiple budget proposals (In Person Instruction Grants and learning loss mitigation) will advance quickly. ACSA will be actively engaged with both the administration and Legislature to ensure that the needs of students are met and will keep you updated on developments."
